for not much more than that $300 you could buy a lokka difflock which would be a much better traction aid than the next to useless toyota lsd units

I know, ask a stupid question and you'll get what you deserve.

I will ask more detailed. I have a 1995 KZN130 and the lokka website offers me 3 different rear lokka. how do I know which one I need w/o having to take the diff down first ? these are the axle features options on the lokka website:

All gears, plates & springs removed - LSD - $396.64

30 Spline, 2 Pinion gears - open - $235.64

All gears replaced, 30 Spline 4 Pinion gears - open - $255.63

cheers,
steve

I just went thru the FAQ on the website and it did answer my question, don't need to know which rear one I need, will fit a front lokka first.

All good

You can also look on the plate on the firewall of your surf (I know my 1989 hilux has one) that give the axle code, the hilux is a G282, using this table http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech ... 18588.html tells me I have an "G" 8 inch diff "28" 4.3 diff ratio "2" 2 pinions.

So long as the diffs have not been changed that should be all you need.

I have front and rear auto lockers in my hilux, I have got use to the rear around town, clicking and bumping on tight turns.

Off road in 4wd the front locker does affect the steering, and quite a bit.
Initially drove like I had open diffs, until I broke a cv…. full lock full noise on gravel and bang.

Now I do more in 2wd especially on firm ground (summer) doing tight turns. Straight line and sloppy ground / cross axle etc 4wd is awesome.
