wilson road to muriwai

Post by launcht »

Hi all,

Im heading to muriwai for play in the pajero on waitangi day and wanting to go wilson road way as it looks a bit more exciting that rimmer or the main entrance at muriwai town. Ive never been that way before so not sure exactly where to go. Do I go right to the end of wilson road or do I have to turn off somewhere? How long to get onto the beach going wilson road way from helensville?

Wanting to go up the end with all the dunes et and have a explore and muck around. Anything I need to look out for or things I need to avoid etc. Apart from the obvious, getting stuck.

any info or advice would appreciated.

cheers

Stay on Wilson road till you drive past the lake on your right hand side - Just as you get past the lake there is a turn off on the right. This is the start of the track - It skirts around the edge of the lake then up through part of the forest then out to the beach. Becareful on the track as it follows the lake around as its mainly a single lane wide and you get the odd idiot on a motorbike who seems to think its a race track

A recent report suggests that getting off the beach to Wilson Rd is not easy at present.

I can second that. For whatever reason it's requiring a lot of oomph to get back up the hill. You probably want at least mid tide or lower to get enough run up :)
