automatic trans flush seal replacement

Post by wildplumdx »

so never touched a auto trans in my life but i need to drop out my brothers pajero auto box which looks heavy and very awkward to do.... but needs to be done to replace the torque converter front seal as its leaking

so this is what i am thinking of doing after the seal is replaced... dropping the pan and oil gonna change the filter if poss then take the out and in oil likes from the radiator off. drop the oil in line in clean oil run the trans till the oil comes out clean out the out oil line shut the motor off re hook up and top up if necessary ? maybe not in that order if you guys think better ? sound like a plan ?

I have done something similar. Trying to top it up as it drains wont work too well as it wont suck up the fluid....
What I did was dump all the oil in the pan.
Refit and top up.
Remove the out hose and direct it into a milk bottle or similar.
Start truck and leave it to idle can't remember if I selected a gear.
After a few seconds the fluid will start pumping out.
When the bottle is fullish stop the truck and then top up trans with the same amount.
After a few runs the fluid will start to run clear / new fluid.
Then connect hose and top up trans properly.

sweet sounds like a valid idea think i'll run with it, as i've also got fully synthetic trans oil now too suppose to be better than dexron 3 or something and mixing oils is never good. rather do it once do it right, also i think selecting gears is a good idea as it would clean out the oil gallery's in that part of the trans box etc i mean really cant do any harm so long as you don't run the pump dry right ?

done. worked a treat only thing i would have done differently was get the compressor and blow the old old back to the trans through the oil return line but i forgot, i don't think that amount of oil will do harm, new oils nice and clean and red !
