Samurai winch/bull bar options

Post by Swizzyduds »

Hello everyone, first post here and newbie 4wder...

I have recently just purchased a 1992 suzuki samurai, pretty much stock apart from the previous owner had replaced the suspension.

I have started heading down the upgrade path and have put some 30x9.5 mud tyres and a snorkel on it.

Next thing i would like to do replace the front bumber with a winch/ bull bar allowing a bit more clearance for the tyres.

I see ARB and a company called Shrockworks (usa) do some cool looking bars. Can anyone share their opinion of these brands? Or am i better of getting a custom bar made?
Can anyone recommend someone in Christchurch as i don't have the skills to do it myself...

Looking forward to getting some advice from fellow samurai owners, thanks!

I have made a few winch bumper for Suzukis, I could make one for your Zuk.
Cheers Woody.

I would recommend one of Woody's bumper's, I have one on my truck.
Woody's bumper's looks really good, are strong an have saved my panel's on more then one occasion out on the tough tracks!!
Mounting my winch too the bumper was a breeze too..

The trick with suzukis is keep them light, i would get one made, either woody or tom, but stress the lightweight bit, suzukis are small and dont need big chunks of 5mm plate (especially hanging off the front), something robust but lean with small (1inch) tube is the business

I used to own a 1985 SJ413 soft top and I had an ARB bar on that. Looked awesome but when I mounted a Warn M6000 winch in it the weight combo caused my nice supple springs to sag. So I took the winch out.

The ARB bar design is fairly old. And depending on what sort of trails you intend on driving a custom bar is worth considering.

Part of me wishes I had never sold it. Awesome little machine
