HJ60 Lancruiser info wanted please

Post by Scruffy »

Hey Fella's,

I've got an HJ60 cruiser here that a customer has bought solely for its engine - 2H - for me to put into his bus as he cooked the last one

Being a nissan lad at heart I've never really looked into the dark side of toyota :x and don't want to either overprice or underprice things. Aparently according to one of our sales reps the diffs are worth good coin...

What I'm thinking of doing is buying the rest off him, and selling it out as parts, but just want to make sure I'm not going to be stuck with the lot because its worthless crap, so can I have some genuine answers please on the value on the following, could be worth something, could be not worth my hassle and time. I figure most if not all of you will know whether this stuff is worth buying and what you would accept if you were selling it yourself.

- Body - rusty (worthless I know), however all windows are there, etc.. seats are a bit on the 'have been sat in a lot' side
- Gearbox & Transfer Case (no crunches aparently, in saying that I havn't driven the vehicle myself - and its got no engine so hard to flintstone and find out)
- Diffs. The front one looks to be strengthened underneath, aftermarket, and not a bad job done. Its got manual locking hubs. Ratios unknown at this stage, if it makes a huge difference on price do tell.
- Tyres - 1 is wofable, maybe 2, the other 2 are a certain no.

Chassis looks to be ok, so possibility of selling the whole shebang and heaving it onto someones trolley and goneburger is certainly there too.

What I don't want to do is put bits and pieces on trademe and get the usual - bro got a wing mirror nut? Don't really have the time for that crap.

If its all junk and realistically going to be worth more to me to get my apprentice to strip it down and head for the scrappy, also handy to know.

Cheers guys. Honesty is greatly appreciated.

Ill take the front right guard if its tidy?
Diffs will be a 3.7:1 which isnt much good for big tyres but still relatively easy to sell. I sold a pair a year ago in a one week trademe auction. I may also know of someone who is looking for just a diff head.

I don't think there is a panel on this fine piece of engineering that is tidy, bodywise it really is a perfect example of 'one careful lady owner'.

Good to know thanks, send me a pm of what they'd want to pay for it, because its here.

Depends on what you pay vs what condition its various components are in , hard to say otherwise

Take it from me , having parted a few of these so I could install their running gear into my trucks

You end up with a load of shit you don't want. You might be able to sell everything but its a matter of how long you gonna hold onto a pair of seats so you can get 50 bucks for em? a month? a year? Everything will sell given time. How much time is the question and believe me yes when you decides enoughs enoughs and biff or scrap whatever you have left you'll have every man and his dog ringing you up asking for the bit you scraped the day previous. Bloody murphy

If everythings in good condition you can get some good money. But its time consuming and messy. Also abit of work to remove various components so you can get to this and that bla bla bla
Hard to say what condition things are in too when you can't drive it either , Gearbox esp

Not recommended for the light hearted.

5 speed manual? If it's a h55f.

H55fs are hard to find. Found in other landcruisers so should be in demand.

If it a semi float in the rear its worth scrap
If its a full floater you might be lucky to get a couple of hundy
About the same for the front
A lsd is worth around $300 and open nugget around $100/150
Off hand i would of guessed a hj had a 4.1-1 as it was only the smaller bj's that were running the higher gears

Gearbox to the right person you might get $500 with trans box

Pop the trans box pto cover off and inspect for pto gear. That will put another hundy onto it

The rest take straight to the scrappy as it worth a couple of hundy and people will want you spend hours pulling off a $2.00 part

Mind you in the last couple of months there has been quite a demand in pitman arms

Thanks for that guys. Very helpful. I was thinking of just selling out the diffs, gearbox and perhaps steering & suspension. The body is rough inside and out so I'd bin it straight away. It is a 5 speed, and has PTO drive on the box I'm pretty sure, used to have a winch by the looks of the mounting points on the bubba gump bumper its got, albeit bent as it is.
