Chinese air locker install and test

Post by poss682 »

Hi guys and Girls I decided to take the plunge and buy one of these Chinese air lockers for the rear of my Terrano
Image
1 Because I want a locker
2 Because it was cheep
3 Because no one has really documented an install and given actual feed back on performance

I have had the locker installed into the diff housing by Mike @ 4wd Accessories (top Bloke) he said it went in pretty easy (no machining, Mike might be able to comment on this?) it also Came with bearing in the kit so that was nice because my ones were pretty shagged

Next step was to install the air compressor, with no room under the bonnet I decided to place in behind the rear seat so i had to remove the old tec for the new tec ha ha ha

Removed carpet, drilled and installed RIV nuts

Then re installed carpet and bolted down the compressor

Very happy with the install so far, May have to do some sort of sound proofing.

Next step is the wiring but for people chch at the moment weather is not permitting..... so will update hopefully in the week end as weather looks better ha ha ha

Cheers Pete

Why? It's the front that needs it.....just shim up/service the LSD. I did and now the old man won't let me park on his lawn when we go around for dinner

p.s. may want to check it for asbestos.

40 Chinese made locomotives have been pulled from service as they tested positive for asbestos in the paint  .

Of course we could have built them at Hillside and stimulated our own economy

Thought it (asbestos)was in the soundproofing in the cabs and engine bays?

Anyhow, soundproofing for your compressor.. Have you considered rubber mounts to isolate the vibes from the vehicle body?

Watching with interest. Amazed at how similar the packaging is to the ARB bites I have seen.

I've been thinking of doing the exact same thing.
Did you buy the locker locally or import it yourself?
What did you get charged for install of the locker into diffhead(if you don't mind me asking).

Don't forget to allow air circulation around the compressor. They do get pretty hot especially if airing up tyres. Keep in mind when you're soundproofing it.

Na buddy don't mind at all, I brought the locker from http://www.winch.co.nz/categories/air-lockers for about $750 to my door I think.

For the install into the diff it cost me about $500 but that was cheep as it was there first install of one of these and I had some other work done.

Yeah, I would have thought the same, but the news report I heard clearly said in the paint samples they had taken. Still where ever it is, not good.

hi how did the install go?

i have a 300tdi discovery with front and rear chinese air lockers in it.

have had the rear one in for about 2 years now and works great. does leak a tiny bit of air tho. but never had any problems with it.

just installed the front last week and works great also. no leaks out of this one. really makes the disco so much better

and now putting one in the back of my brother isuzu .

for the money and how well there lasting i cant complain
