dam cv

my mate has a navara and he has jus put 33" x12.5 wranglers on and wound up torsion bars and reset rear springs. on 3 trips he has manged to break a cv on the drivers side 3 times all brand new ones. can anyone tell me why this side keeps snappin? the 2nd time he wsnt even givin it assholes and it blew a hole in the casing. the first time he was kinda bouncin but the last time tonite he was jus doin a climb.

Is he replacing them with genuine parts??

Some of the cheap aftermarket CV's are absolute crap and break with out even you trying.

Is it diesel??

yea it 2.7 non turbo. not sure i think he buyin them from ripco. wood the ones off the turbo terranos fit? or is it different?

Hmmmm. Strange. You would think power wise, they would cope. Hell i used to run 33" Simex's on my Terrano and never damaged a CV.

Tell him to go to a wreckers and get a second hand genuine one. Should be about $150 (thats what a i paid for my last 1) and see how that goes.

Winding the torsion bars shouldn't make that much difference, sure they run at higher angles, but thats no different to turning your steering wheel.

I had mine wound right up, and the bump stops cut in half and never had a problem.

It could be a combo of driving style, terrain and poor quality aftermarket CV's????

My truck is IFS and has a long side and short side to the diff housing, I realise both CV shafts are the same length but after I wound the bars enough to get a 2 inch lift, and cut the bump stops, I found the shaft on the short housing side is on a more extreme angle than the other side.

Was just checking if the same problem was evident.

the angles his cv sit on arent that bad. not as bad as mine. he keeps buyin them from ripco and part master. do you think the terrano turbo ones wood be stronger than his ones? wood they fit? he only had issue wit these tyres. not sure why it always the rite hand side either

Yip. I'd agree with DiesleBoy, try a second hand original one from the wreckers.

Just to confirm the suspension lift and wind was done a while before this set of 33's was put on without problems?

did torsions wen got new tyres. he was previously runnin 32s. the rear has had the leaves reset.

Not that much between 32's and 33's. Strange.

My moneys still on the quality of the CV. Seeing as its always that same CV that keeps breaking, you could get another aftermarket one, swap an original one from the other side into the side that keeps breaking, and put the new one on the side that original one came from. Then, depending on which one breaks, you have your answer.

Lot of farking round with CV's though :shock:
