Just wondering if and what fuel treatments people are using i.e. injector cleaner and is it a good or bad idea?

Tried them and never noticed any difference. I find regular maintenance e.g. changing plugs and cleaning the AFM (hotwire type) keeps everything running as it should.

Ok can you tell me where I will find an airflow meter on my nearly 30yo mechanically injected diesel? 
And I fail how to see changing the (glow) plugs will change anything?

Moreys do a fuel conditioner that's a lube treatment for the pump, seals, injectors and also kills diesel bug.

I use a product called fuel set. I get it from repco & it's relatively cheap.
It works in pet rolls and diesels. Because I am sceptical about these sort of products I did a fuel consumption test with my car, I go 82km from home to work and back everyday, on the same road & I even set my tyre pressures correctly!
8.2 litres per km before the stuff went in & 7.6 litres per km after.
I also put it my mrs car and that dropped slightly in fuel use too (can't remember the figures though).
John Deere tractors do a diesel conditioner as well but the cost put me off, and seeing a customers ute smoke out half of hawkes bay after sticking the whole tub in his tank and starting it up was funny as hell. The 2 litres he used is supposed to condition about 500 litres

Its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Have also read about people filling up diesel filter with injector cleaner when changing it to really clean things out, good or bad idea? Fuel filter hasn't been changed in about 40,000k's, must get around to that sometime

first step is to get your maintenance up to date before you go tipping additives and shit into your tank

Yeah yeah, same logic holds. Do your general maintenance then try additives.

Two stroke oil and some times Acetone.

I've just recently drained my tank and used some moreys.
I noticed the difference straight away. Doesn't smoke much when cold anymore.

Cool I stick some in next time I fill up will also get onto changing that fuel filter...
