l200 on 33s

Post by tirantious »

i was just sitting at home looking at my truck outside on 29s that just fit underneath it and wondered if anyone has ever lifted one onto 33s and how hard/ how much $$$s it would cost to do it. probabaly wont do it myself as i have no money with student loans  but i just wondered how well it would go and how well it would keep up with other lifted trucks haha

My L200 is on 31's with offset rims and I only had a problem with the rear of the front guards which got sorted with a grinder and a hammer :o

true hahaha i want to lift my truck eventually and turbo it or put a bigger diesel motor in first but i was just curious as to how well one would go with 33s under it ive seen tritons with 33s under them but never any older l200s with the 2.5s in them.

in general terms you can expect it will make the gearing too high, overload the engine, burn the clutch out, chew up the tyres with guard rub, make the vehicle unwarrantable, over stress and break the CV's and bend/break the steering components all with a maximum on road speed of 75-80kph going down hill with a tail wind but the truck will look pretty cool :D

 i figured it would break heaps of stuff and cost far to much lol but just thought it'd be cool to look at. im more looking down the lines of lifting to put 31s undearneath as most of the pepole i go out with are running 31s or 32s. but gotta pay bills first :|

my torsion's are wound up and the front sits quite allot lower than the rear but its only been like it since the truck got introduced to a concrete strainer and a ditch.

i had 265 75 16s on mine and it rubbed but i cut back the guards and hit some stuff and it still wasnt the best so i went back to 31's still got the 265 75 16 which i think are 33s? sapped alot of power and drank more fuel was more the reason i went back to 31's

currently putting a bigger turbo on mine from 9b to 11g let you know how that turns out

sweet as im thinking i might have enough money saved up and enough bills payed that i can swap the engine out from 2.5 non turbo to something with more guts by about christmas   im not to worried about rubbing atm as for some reason the right hand wheel rubs on the power steering pump on full lock

well im giving up on 33s just to much money and to many other things to pay for. :? however i have worked out why i couldn't wind up my torsion bars anymore the adjusters were full of crap making it impossible to wind up 5 mins with the water blaster and i have the front of the truck more or less even now. :) i am however looking at putting 31s under the truck when these ones wear out some more but i was just wondering if they'd fit ok.

i got 31 buckshots on mine, mint as didn't need raising i dont think but i chucked 50mm body lift in it anyway maybe it was rubbing ? i dont remember but the buckshots ive put 56,000 km on them so far and i'm down to 5mm tread not very good in the mud now but its more a work truck then mud truck but the buckshots are worth every penny guys say you get about 75000 out of em i believe i will, just gotta rotate them every 10,000 and i pump them up to 40psi seems to be working trying to save the cutting edge of the tyre for mud when she see's it on building sites lol

Don't forget you need cert for bodylift, about $400. Could get away with winding up torsion bars, make or buy longer shackles for rear leafs and fit longer shocks.

You may get away with it but legally you need a cert for any bodylift.

Big point here.... and its not the cops you really should be worried about, its insurance your body lift gives the insurance companys an easy out if they don't want to pay for you or anybody else involved

Just because you got a warrent doesn't make you legal lol

as far as legal goes the suspension lift is the "grey'er" of the two because of the longer travel springs in 4wd's there is a greater range of ride height due to sag so you will get away with a bit more "its just new springs..."
body lift blocks on the other hand are an obvious mod that isn't factory

I would seriously think twice about spending $1500 on a spring lift for this?
It is just a daily driven hack yea? There are much cheaper ways to lift a leaf and torsion sprung truck..
If I had $1500 I wanted to blow on a truck it would be new muds 31s $1000 and a locker $500

And don't get caught up on 33s, a locked truck on 31s will go further than unlocked on 33s

yep i have given up on the 33s idea but i cant fit 31s under the front end of truck even with the torsions cranked up so the lifts to help squeeze them under and after that a locker and winch setup will be on the cards.

a grinder costs 100 buks hammer 20 buks im sure you can make them fit. if you listen to the positive coments you will end up with cool truck if you listen to the negative nothing will get done! my truck had 29" wheels it now has 35" wheels. will post picks when complete as I have to many people saying cant do that!

do it do it

My L200 has 31's and I have the bumps tops cut back and torsion bars up to the max and I still had to cut the bumper and the rear of the guards at the bottom to get clearance.
I am using rims with extra offset to fill the bubble arches it has though.
I don't think 33's would work without a body lift or major surgery.
