45 and 55 series seat compatibility
Quick question, can 55 series high backed seats be used in a 45 series ute without modification (other than maybe changing the rails)?

First impressions .... No

That was my first impression too. They widened the 55 so probably too wide to fit the bench seat in a 45, but maybe the single front seats from the fj56 might fit.

Maybe my best bet is to locate some earlier seats and fit them instead of trying to find some high backed seats that my 79 model came with.

there were 2 different floor pans for the 40/45 series and they both had different seats and mounts so make sure you get the right ones that fit, the earlier ones had the fuel tank located under the drivers seat and the later ones had the fuel tank under the floor

Yep, mine is under floor tank. I grabbed the rails so maybe the other type of seats will fit if I use the rails I have.
