Diff drain plug stuck...
My diff drain plug on my L200 is stuck hard... I have finally resorted to my 600NM Bluepoint rattle gun and it still won't move, in fact it rounded the bolt head!!
Any suggestions?

How hard can it be?
Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
weld a nut to it, the heat will free it and you can use the nut to unwind it

Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
Good idea, seen that trick used before, but I don't have a welder. What about a blowtorch on the plug and bash the impact socket back on and have another go?
How hard can it be?
Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
Use a hand file to straighten the edges to fit the next size down socket on the plug. Will take a while but you can tidy it up. Also try and use a 6 point socket.

Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
Hit it with a hammer. The jarring will help loosen it. Don't use crappy tools on it, or you'll make it worse for yourself. Maybe even take it to a garage to get them to do it? $15 might save you two hours+ of headaches
Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
had this with a stuck wheel bearing plate star screw, used a bit of shock to the head, 1/2 a can of crc and tightening/loosening it repeatley.

Make sure you use 6 point heavy wall sockets when wrenching hard on nuts.
excuse the pun.
I managed to get mine out with a 1000mm breaker bar and a trolley jack underneath it holding the socket hard up.
Beware of the old knuckle bash when it lets go though.

too true!!
I have a 6 point impact socket I have been using. I might get angry on it on the weekend with some heat.

Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
Before I remove my diff drain plugs I make sure that I can get the filler plug out. I assume you have already done that

Re: Diff drain plug stuck...
Then replace it with a new plug that you can buy from Toyota that is tightened with an 10mm Hex Allen Key. Let me know if you want the part number.
