Sutherlands Hut 29-3-14

Post by catalystracing »

The Featherston Family 4x4 club looks after the hut and track, heading in on Saturday to stock the hut with firewood and do some track repairs.

A limited number of trucks welcome to join in say 4-5, bring a helpful attitude, picks, shovels, pruning gear and lunch :D

There will be pin-striping :D
Track is in reasonable condition last report we had but some ruts need filling, there is river crossings which are fairly tame, but entry and exit on a couple arent so
Need a reasonably well set up truck, good ATs will be ok, if you have done Odlins you'll be fine. Turn any snorkel top hats backwards

Will head into hut and see what needs to be done to track, do the firewood thing, weed eating around the hut, and on the way out will repair the gate again....

Should be out around 5 ish

Meeting at the Mobil service station in Featherston at 9am, departing a little after (country times apply)

PM me if keen,
Cheers Paul.

Damn, would have been good to have ya along, we only just decided to head in yesterday as we cancelled the last trip due cyclone Lusi..   .

Will contact you on return and let ya know, we will only be doing the trip into Haurangis and back out, not the full loop.
They did a complete trip some weeks back with contractors giving a quote for track clearing on the sides, seemed ok, the first river crossing still needs some work, but lotsa momentum or a winch and youll be fine

It was a great trip and we achieved a lot with help from ORE members Steve (Gyxx) and Josh (lax2wlg), thanks a bunch for mucking in guys, really appreciated. Still managed to tell BS and explore a little around the hut, home around 7pm

Cheers Paul.

Looks like a good trip 8)

I was in there the other week... definately one of the most scenic and enjoyable job visits I've been along to. I had a blast driving through. An unexpected day out haha

Awesome day out on Saturday. Great piece of land, great drive and met some great guys. A big thanks to Paul, Rod and Stan from the Featherston Family 4x4 club for bringing a couple of new guys along and making us feel very welcome. Happy to help out with a bit of track work - it means the track's more likely to still be there next time ;-) ...

My son had a blast going for a ride in Stan's Wrangler -"Just like that one off 'Car vs Wild' Dad!"

I filmed the whole trip back out which I'll upload to Youtube when I get a chance but it's been a busy weekend and I'm back over the hill to Carterton today and it may be a few days before I get a chance to sit down on a PC.

Will write more soon...

You don't need to bathe in the creek anymore, there's a bath now.

Great looking trip. How long is it and is it open to public access or via the club only?
