Okay to put bllanking plate on end of EGR pipe? TD27T

Post by traversd »

Been talked about a lot obviously,
But just getting around to removing EGR.
Just making up some blanking plates from steel and was going to tap a thread into them and just put them on intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

Can I just put the blanking plate on the end of the pipe that connects to the EGR valve? (as in put the blanking plate on the side of the pipe that connects to the EGR valve?

Does this have any negative effects compared to putting the blanking plate right on the manifold?
I only ask because it seems to be a hell of a job to get to the bolts that hold the pipe to the exhaust manifold.

Cheers.
Travers.

Probably only difference would be the pipe would be left hanging, so it could end up breaking off from the vibration

^ this. if you can brace it to the head somehow it might be ok.
I did it that way on my old teranno lol. was ok while I had it but it may not last forever.
also, I didn't bother tapping a hole in the plate. just used nuts and bolts. way easier.

cut mine off with a saber saw then crimped the end with fencing pliers.

copied the flange pattern and bolted the plate on.

That's a bit rough  . On the bighorn I welded a 20c coin over the end of the pipe was a perfect fit

My pipe is still in. I took the egr valve out and blanked the pipe and intake manifold. That was a year ago and it hasn't broken off.

Mine broke off after a month:( I tried to get it off but if i put much more pressure on it i was gonna break something. I used a 19mm or 20mm core plug then welded over as it broke off at the bracket. I took the intake right off to clean it the slime out of it. It was easy to get at to put the blanking plate on.
