My 69 S2a getting ready for a full restore. Its running a 161 Holden motor and was pleased to find out yesterday that the Landy has already been registered with this motor so no lvv certs needed :D

Mine - 1964 S2a LWB. Ex New Zealand army. 24v electrics. Orig 2.25 petrol motor. Heavy duty chassis and braced axle cases etc. Twin fuel tanks.

Should have taken a pic before strip :roll:

Chassis is mint. Engine runs like a sewing machine. Even has brakes!
Soft top is a bit rooted and 1 door top is bad.

Plans are a bit of a do up. Re paint - probably camo of some sort. WOF and rego and then either sell it or persuade the wife to let me keep it!

How's about this for something different? Ex Classic Rangie late 1980s running gear with a 3.9V8 that lives in the rear.

I've done a few things like sort out fluid leaks, a new radiator with Davies Craig electric pump management up front to cool things properly and a total scratchbuild rewire because all that original RR looming stuff was just too excessive, really worn out and the cause of the odd sudden breakdown from unreliable electrics. I've also installed a set of new gauges since i bought the machine to keep an eye on things.

Most of the time it's used on Muriwai to go for a surfcast but sometimes for the hell of it i take it into work in the Auckland CBD where it gets a few looks from the office workers....

It's loud on the exhaust too which a V8 should be on a machine like this i reckon. In the coming weeks in time for summer 2013/14 i want to go through the front RR swivels that are corroded and pitted, part of the reason the diff oil is beginning to sling onto the wheels...

Fun machine and it accelerates well being as it's a seriously shortened lightened RR chassis.

My Ex military 2a 88" Rego Sticker says 1960 but it is a 2a and they didn't make them until 61. Carjam says 1960 but first registered in 1964. Certification plate for Holden motor says its a 1963. I don't know when it was built and don't really care. I drive it every day and It makes me smile every day

Before 1925 vehicle registration took place on a regional rather than on a country-wide basis. Vehicles displayed their registration numbers on the right-hand side of the vehicle, often painted on. From 1925, the authorities issued steel plates to vehicle-owners annually. This system changed when steel supplies became limited during World War II: from 1941 plates remained valid for 5 years.

The issue of permanent registration-plates started in 1964. These new plates had silver letters and numbers on black aluminium plates, and started with "AA100". The LLnnnn system started at this time. An example, a 1969 police car with an FB plate, can be viewed at MOTAT Auckland.

Thanks for that bit of Info. It explains the anomaly. I do have black and silver plates EQ1885.

cabin will be nice and warm in winter and that engine must stay pretty clean!

Great units the 3.9 efi's. bolted one in my S3 hybrid 2009ish and havnt ever had to do anything to do it and its so much fun to drive :twisted:

My two, unfortunately one had to donate a few parts to the other to get it roadworthy, maybe I should have done it the other way around. That would have got me into trouble though. I think I have also discovered a unique 4CU / Flapper failure mode, small fillings from grinding finding their way into both the main ECU and fuel pump relays preventing the contacts from touching while still making a nice clicking sound.... that one was fun to figure out

Finally, my first brand new car! 6th rover.

MTR muds on it, a snorkel is being fitted by the stealers, 8274 with gigglepin internals is on the bench - just need to work out a bumper and steering guard.

Likely not for sale, couldn't say about matching numbers.
He has all the bits, windows, canopy etc. It's pretty rubbish to drive :p
I haven't tried taking it through the paddocks though :D Might be an ex-client if I did!
