nissan bd30 turbo installation

Post by goktu »

hi all

as I mentioned, have a defender with bd30 engine. searched the web and found that its smilar to some of the nissan engines like bd30ti, zd30? some parts same as nissan terrano td27 engines?

I would like to learn how can I install a turbo to this engine?

think that td27 exhaust manifold is suitable?

anyone knows anything about it?

if you help me I'll appreciate:)

no. you will be needing a turbo injector pump with the diaphram ontop to allow the injector pump to vary the fuel to match the boost pressure.

other wise it will have a fairly narrow powerband in the rev range where it goes from having too much fuel and lots of black smoke and no power to no smoke fuel starving no boost and no power.

like any engine you have to match the fuel to the air to get the right ratio's

So basically the only thing you will be keeping of your original engine is the block /head and intake manifold.

also you'll be needing the earlier TD27T exhaust manifold and injector pump. not the later one

Did something similar once with an FD35(in a 110), if it was me I would source a td27t Manifold and turbo(cheap) and just turn the fuel delivery screw up for the meantime, you will still see a massive gain in torque and power for stuff all outlay. Go with the EGT gauge tho, I would expect it to go bloody well really, Direct injection over the TD's inferior indirect imjection

will td25 exhaust will fit too or is it different than td27s?

and I am confused with bd30&bd30ti

some people says that only difference is turbo vs n/a and some people says that bd30ti has oil jets oil lines etc for the turbo but bd30 doesnt have.

Td27 manifold and turbo would be a dime a dozen I would have thought due to so many td27t's being around here, old terranos, etc. Worst case with oil feed you could tee off oil sender unit and braze a nipple for oil return into sump, or tee off alternator vacuum pump pressure/return, but I would avoid the latter if you can help it. I meant use the stock BD pump, just turn the delivery screw up, should be centre of distributor head on the pump under a cover/cap you might have to remove(bosch/Zexel)

I don't know if you could just get away with a TD27t injector pump anyhow, if at all, yours is direct Injection and TD27 is indirect, usually higher pressures in DI from what I have seen. Just use what you have and don't go too crazy on the fuel until you install an EGT gauge
