In my opinion the answer is No.
If you need recovery gear go to a specialist and pay the dollars and get the good stuff. ARB comes to mind as being up there.
Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
Surely there must be some 4x4 retail stores in Auckland? I googled it but only found 4x4 workshops
Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
Repco tree trunk pro lasted well so far, high lift nice idea but do you really need one yet,
Snatch straps are good quaility via super cheap or Repco ARB are superior quaility but you pay for it

Bridons (formerly Cookes) in Greenmount Drive East Tamaki
Auckland 4x4 (Papakura Auto electrical) Papakura
Motortech Glenfield
Fully Equipped in Lady Ruby Drive East Tamaki
Just to mention a few ...............
For quality and price then Bridons would be hard to beat. There Snatchmaster staps are very good, especially if looked after properly.
With Hi Lift Jacks you get what you pay for. The Chinese ones have been known to bend during use, not a good situation to be in when vehicle is jacked up.

Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
I've had a super cheap snatch strap and tree trunk protector for about a year now and it seems to have lasted well. I just keep them clean and well maintained. I used to work there and the markup on the snatch straps and stuff is actually not that much.
Also they are having a sale on 4wd stuff at the moment....

Supercheap have a Rugged Ridge branded "4WD Recovery Strap" which is polyester and it does not stretch. They also have a same coloured nylon Rugged Ridge "4WD Snatch Strap" which has fancy sleeve at one end and is dearer. Both have identical instructions for use as 4WD snatch recovery. To the untrained, buyers tend to end up with the cheaper strap which when used in anger, shock loads the recovery points and is therefore dangerous.
Hence I am very wary of recovery equipment from Supercheap.
Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
Yeah no problems with Super Cheap Gear, just watch these flash branded components as sometimes you are paying more for the name than the extra quality.

Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
I ended up buying a snatch strap and tree trunk protector from super cheap. They were on sale so i figured i would give them a go. Didnt end up getting stuck at all on the adventure so i cant say how good they are. But they look ok haha. But for $100 for the two i cant complain if they dont last long.

Is the snatch strap polyester or nylon?
Re: Recovery Gear - Auckland
dunno about those supercheep ones I wouldn't buy one but I remember a test on all the different brands of straps a few years ago cant remember who did it but one of the aussie 4wd mags rings a bell and surprisingly some of the cheeper inferior brands came up pretty good well exceeding their ratings before breaking on the test bed and the flash ARB strap breaking 1kg below the rating
