sas'n up my surf

Post by truckingood »

so as per title im in there. found out the guy up the road is on the move and after 25years in the same place he had a lot of shit to get rid of. one of them was a 87 lux on 32'' re-treads, mint runner with abit of rust in cab. after parting with a grand its up my drive. have looked through just about all treads and cant find my answer. my question is, when I do my change up, do I have to swap out my t-case aswell? as effectively the "push button" 4wd wont work with the removal of the add system???
any help is welcomed with much love

cheers luke

1987 Surf should be a LN/YN61 2 door with fibreglass canopy. It doesn't have the ADD system, It will have a W56 gearbox and a manually operated transfer that moves in a U shaped pattern from 2 hi to 4 hi then 4 low. So it will be fine as is for a SAS.

suppose I should have sed my surf is a 94 kzn130 ifs with add set up (push button 4wd). donor vehicle is a 87 single cab hilux solid front with 4.3 lsd's. as my truck will be losing the button, will I need to swap t-cases as effectively there will be no way of tranfering drive to the front wheels :?

Can still use your transfer.
The push button engages the front drive in the transfer as well as engaging the ADD in the front diff. From memory you just need to do something with the wiring to the front diff.
Push button to engage 4wd works the same still.

Hi mate, what you’re doing is not too hard at all. I’m picking your keeping the leaf setup from the Hilux? As far as the Tcase goes keep the factory one and leave the wiring as is. All you will need to do is remove the vacuum solenoids for the front actuators and you will be fine. Means you can have push button 4x4 for those quick stints up the tar sealed road and not have to stop to engage it. Plus keeps everything factory (wiring, cross members etc.)

Good Luck!

Cheap and easy flex with leaves they work well and are simple :D

If we lifted from the rear wheel would have got full articulation out of the front,so bear in mind there's still some to go droop wise in the front.

trucks on 35's,1.45m to the center of the hub front bumpers at shoulder height,

Yup like tom said. the truck has 50mm body lift (gross) 50mm rear spring lift some old hilux rear leaves 50mm extended shackles? 50mm drop front cross member, and the rear suspension now lets it down,

Maxed out the jack easily and the rear is slightly lower when sitting flat.
