Faulty Clinometer?

Hi guys

Had this on my mind lately. I have a 92 Terrano, and I notice when I'm cornering the horizontal aspect is telling me I'm at 20 degrees to either side respectively, even though the wheels are level with the ground. Is this normal or is there something faulty with my gauges?

its telling you to slow down a bit in the cornering

It won't be accurate, but it is saying that your vehicle body is at a 20 degree angle/lean.
Inclinometers are only there to distract the driver off road and make them more likely to tip over because they were too busy watching the gauge and not where they were going.

You need to try harder I can get mine well into the red when cornering.

It's just a function of how these dials work. They are quite crude, no fancy gyros like aeroplanes. Think of it as a rigid plumb bob with a display face attached. They are most accurate when the vehicle is stationary as any acceleration influences it. Hit the picks hard and see what happens.

In my hilux I ripped those gauges out of the dash top pod and replaced them with water temp, oil pressure and voltage gauges - much better use of the space.
