help with toyota 5L
so looking at a hilux ute with a 5L motor how do these stack up against a 1kz are they the same motor just ones turbo and ones not ? which is more reliable ? and if i was to get the 5L hilux cheap enough how readily available are turbo kits etc ? what are my options ? i know nothing about toyota diesels currently own an 4wd L200 diesel turbo and its a great truck but always wanted a hilux

5L is the 3 litre version of the 2L 2.4 and 3L 2.8 The 1kz is a completely different engine and there is no comparison. The 1kz is a great performing engine and decently reliable. The 5L is a slow old dog and no more reliable than the 1kz. Buy a 1kz powered version if you like to do 100k's on the open road and pass other cars.

That is why the "decently" was in front of reliable.
They are a step up from a mitsy 4m40 but not a nissan Td27.
I know of a few high K 1kz's that have not had a cracked head, one of then has done 360000ks. They don't all do it, but will if overheated.
They are also really cheap to do a head on, Compared to most others.
