95 VX LTD (1HD-FT), well maintained, Safari snorkel, Rage big-bore 3" from back of turbo, de-sludged, performance/pyro tuned, 33's:

Figures exclusive of reserve capacity ...
- Trip = 750km.
- Commuting (20mins highway speed, 45mins crawling along on Chch roads, twice daily) = 715km.
- Towing boat (6m/1600kg fuelled + truck packed to gunnels with 'every-comfort' camping gear, Mrs & and kids) = 640km.

Can drive from Auckland to Amberley on less than 1.5 tanks of diesel (1035km), and Amberley to Dunedin return on just over one tank (800km) :D .

80 series differ soooo much in fuel economy its not funny (moreso the 12v's). Have met a few guys that can only manage 450kms a tank (auto and manual) whereas mine used to happily do over 800ks a tank. I guess this can only be put down to tuning differences and the health of the pump and injectors? Its well documented online that factory tuning is not consistent.

On the last trip I did in mine (2 weeks ago), did 710km until the fuel light came on which Im slightly dissapointed about (however Ive been playing with my pump a bit lately and took the intercooler off).

In my opinion there is no difference in fuel economy between a healthy auto or manual. Mate and I matched fuel economies on healthy motors and same tyre size on a long trip of road and offroad. His auto was just a shitload nicer to drive

Bought a mint manual 24v 80 did about 650k per tank standard....turns out it was WAY under tuned.

Put 33"s on it intercooled and 3" Rage exhaust incl dump pipe and chucked a bunch more gas into it. Odometer still says 650 per tank but i figure with the bigger tyres Im closer to 700. Its not so under tuned anymore :D

Live 15k out of town so its a mix of town and open road driving. Im pretty stoked with the efficiency considering its a big arse truck that I dont need to change out of 5th gear very often!

Used to be a hilux man.........dont think I will ever own another one!
