best all round tyres for r50

Post by The Green Machine »

Hi, currently have Hankook RF08's (265/70/15) on my Terrano which seem fine and apparently are very durable but have read they are a bit dodgy cornering on wet sealed roads.

I drive 90% on tar seal with the odd off road excursion for fishing boating etc.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. :D

Given that you say 90% is on road then an all terrain tyre would be best or if you want something a little off road then maybe the new ATZP3 all terrain Mickey Thompson.

As to where to get them check out http://www.mickeythompsontires.co.nz/retailers.php

As for cheap, I would never consider quality as being cheap. You get what you pay for and the Mickey Thompson tyres are very good and have a good reputation in various forms of motorsport both in overseas and in NZ but don't come 'cheap'. However they are very good value for money with good on and off road performance, and excellent wearing.

Some of NZ's best off road champions in their respective motorsports use Mickey Thompsons including Dan Cowper, former National 4x4 Trials Champion, Tony McCall, Off road racing, Grant Guy Class 8 winner Taupo 1000 last year and racing legend Rod Millen.

a good a/t to consider would be a hankook rf10 or a maxxis 751 both are extremely good, not overly noisy, give you the grip when you need it off road and well behaved on road and exceptional mileage. both are reasonably priced and will give you what you are after. you dont need a mud tyre and mickey thompsons are at the top of the price scale.
