oil leaking from intake manifold
so oils leaking from the intake manifold quite badly on my brothers pajero 4d56t then running onto the exhaust manifold and burning which is a fire risk
when you take the oil cap off the oils creating vapor quiet bad, coolants fine no oil in water or water in oil etc, lots of blow by......failed valve steam seals ? that's all i could be right ? just thought i'd check but looks like the heads coming off......

Re: oil leaking from intake manifold
leaking out of the intake manifold sounds like cracked manifold or gasket.
typically the oil will come out at the hose joins.
the real question is how much oil is going into the intake. i would fit a catch can on the breather and see how much it catches.
also check oil level, if its overfilled it will blow more oil out the breather.
having lots of blowby coming out of the cap at idle is common as rings don't seal properly. how much it blows out while it under load is a better indicator.
the easiest way is just see how much oil gets blown out.

Re: oil leaking from intake manifold
i guess i shouldn't jump to worst case scenario, I've been goggling peoples opinions on similar problems and no one has mentioned valve stem seals , more i think about it surely i wouldn't be them, also it has a new manifold gasket but i did undo it and one stage and then put it back on and its one of those metal ones like double layer of stainless, i didn't like the look of it in the first place.... maybe i'll change the manifold gasket and go from there....

also starts up like a absolute dog when cold so me think maybe it is the valve steam seals allowing oil to sit on the glow plugs might have to pull them out and check them too.
Re: oil leaking from intake manifold
Stem seals will give you oil smoke from the tail pipe at startup and crankcase pressure when on boost but not at idle.
Hard starting and heavy breathing sounds more like low compression due to worn rings to me
Run the breather to a catch can and see how it goes.
Pulling the glow plugs and checking them is fairly easy and I know mine needs them aall working to start nicely.

Re: oil leaking from intake manifold
well i think i found the problem.... when i put the engine back together the tappet cover gasket half fell out at the back and it was crushed all half in half out....so glad it was an easy fix but i really hope this was the problem and nothing else. the next few days will tell!
