HELP "What to do after I just rolled my Hilux" HELP

Post by Steveo4X4 »

Some help please

Just rolled my 1998 2.8L ln106 hilux 3L engine, at about 35km on to its roof. She didn't cut out I turned her of by the key, then We flipped her back onto its feet with the tractor and towed here to a contractors yard. What do I need to do before I start her. When she got flipped back onto her feet she leak oil from somewhere under hood , didn't get chance to see. Dip stick reading just above Empty. I've been told you can take glow plugs out and turn her over to remove excess oil from cylinders then put back in after oil is removed and start the ute and idle. Can someone please give me a step by step description of what to do and where to remove glow plugs and other possible parts so I can get her running and into panel and paint. Thanks so much. Need to get her going quick "also what tools do i need eg socket sizes etc"

Cheers

Yep pull glow plugs out and crank it. Disconnect fuel cut off first. Put a piece of plywood or similar over glow plug area as oil will come out at high pressure. When you start it after putting plugs back in take the rubber pipe off the air intake and have an appropriately sized block of wood ready to block intake if it starts running away (revs going up due to burning oil) Oh and don't forget the pics!

Yep stand back and don't go trying to look down the holes to see how much oils coming out or you'll end up down at the doctors surgery waiting to get the shit cleaned out of your eye :D

Dont crank it over with the starter motor use socket or spanner on the crank pulley untill escaping fluid eases up.You can still damage your engine using the starter if there is a lot of fluid in the bore,it just cant get out the glowplug holes quick enough.

I wouldn't bother with the fuel cutoff, we didn't when getting the oil out of the neighbours 2.8. But as someone said, turn the engine over by hand for a start or very short clicks of the starter. I used the starter but knew what I was doing. Check other things like brake fluid before driving it. The 2.8 is nice and easy to get the glow plugs out of. When cranking it, if using the starter make sure the glow plug wire is not able to be earthed or it'll blow fuses.
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)
