Re: Importing Parts Question
I have never been charged any import duty in the past 10 years. Only GST is charged, plus any customs processing fee, when GST threshold is met (around NZ$400 for items and freight - i.e. cost and freight).

Re: Importing Parts Question
right i see, so i'd be look at 1500+gst and no import duty, only ever tried to bring in 1 thing before and that didnt leave that states because it wasn't aloud to be air frieghted.

Re: Importing Parts Question
If you are bringing stuff from US, you can use a freight consolidator instead where the vendor is not prepared to ship overseas. Try:
http://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/youshop
http://www.buyusa.co.nz/
I have used buyusa in the past for some items, but now I mostly use vendors that do ship directly either through DHL or USPS.

These guys do ship overseas:
http://www.rocky-road.com/spartan-locker.html
Another good vendor is www.summitracing.com you can even estimate what shipping would be.

if i enter 1500 in nzd it comes up with +gst and a fee
when i enter the exact amount in usd 0.18c
some what confusing,
*edit* Doesn't like you using decimal points.

Re: Importing Parts Question
If you import something worth more than $1000 you will need to be registered with customs. Doesn't cost anything but involves filling out a few forms.
Re: Importing Parts Question
Another thing make sure they put the correct amount on the invoice, if it goes missing you would only get the amount on the invoice paid out.
Re: Importing Parts Question
NZ post have a warehouse in the states... You can make use of the free shipping within the US that alot of companies have and then NZ post send it to you. Worked well for my old man. As the amount is above the threshold GST is calculated and you pay with the shipping payment. Then its sent to your door. no customs hassles
There's gotta be some rocks round here SOMEWHERE!
