Body lift, done to death I know but.....

Post by Pete the Pom »

Having looked around on the web and LVV threshold doc, what exactly is the situation currently with body lifts? I want to put a 1" or 2" max lift on the surf, do I need to get it certed and if so what's the cost's I'm likely to be looking at? my '89 had a 1" body lift and sailed through WOF's no bother but seems like things may have changed while I was away...

body lift must have cert no exceptions, in the rules any way. may sneak through wofs but wouldnt suggest giving your insurance company an excuse to not pay in case of an accident

cost approx 400ish, call your local certifier to confirm details

Can you please post the part of the LVVTA rules where its say you need cert for body lift.

As stated, you may get away with a body lift for WOFs, but insurance is the big reason why you would want to make everything 100% legal on your vehicle if the worst happened.

You never know...

Yes, call your local certifier to confirm but its usually around that depending on the level of other mods being certified at the same time

The devil is in the detail, as far as im aware and i havent read the hobby car manual, but from the online specifications it is not actually referenced as requiring cert

In saying that, the trick is that there is no mentioned exception in the threshold sheet thus no exception meaning it must be certified, im sure there's a more important reason for this as your modifying the centre of gravity by raising it and there is no blanket threshold that can be applied to all vehicles ie a 2 inch lift may be perfectly ok on a hilux but disastrous for another type

Hey trundle, now ive read the virm a few times and even had a 2 week argument with my wof guy resulting in the nzta helping out on the ruling and i got my wof finally

There is no specific mention of a height that a suspension lift must come under, there is a ruling just below the suspension exceptions part the attains to lift blocks for leaf susp that has a 50mm quote in it but there is no mention that i can see on an actual height for suspension

Now i could be wrong but can you post up what your talking about

Note 7

A body lift on a body/chassis vehicle (commonly a 4x4) always requires LVV certification.

Yes, this. Plus 100mm minimum ground clearance. Not really applicable to us tho..

And maybe you can't get a wof with a bodylift and no cert...could be the case, either that or some wof places just don't know.

Took mine for a wof a couple of years ago and they said "you need a cert for the body lift" - I replied " have you checked the cert plate on the firewall" .

The place I go to now (and even vinz) always lift the bonnet to check things.
