wheel wobble between 70 and 80 km/hr

Hi.

I recently got a 2007 Jimny. As far as I know there are no modifications to the suspension, other than wider that factory tires. It had a wheel wobble/vibration between 70 and 80 km/hr , I took it back and the dealer "fixed it" but now it is coming back. I have been doing some Google-ing and there seem to be a number of causes:

- Improper method used to balance the tires causing them to go off round.
- Break disks warn unevenly or warped.
- Warn bushes.
- Often deviations from factory suspension configuration.

Also the steering feels a bit odd.

What is the best way to find out the cause, with out spending a fortune by replacing parts one at a time ?

other than having a good visual check/inspection at the steering and suspension components the first and cheapest thing to try is swapping the front and rear wheels over to see if the wobble goes away (or borrow your mates good tyres that don't wobble ) and take the thing into somewhere that knows and works with 4WD's to get the wheel balance checked. No disrespect to any guys in the tyre industry but don't take it to tony's, your local tyre shop or a general beaurepairs outlet or anything like that they don't want to know about 4WD tyres and you'll probably end up with all sorts of advice that you don't really want or need, go to somewhere that lives and breathes 4WD's and the problems they cause

is it body shake or steering wheel shake?

body shake = rear wheels not balanced properly

steering shake = front wheels not balanced properly

best bet would be to get tyres checked at a good tyre place not some big chain store one where they have no idea what they are doing.

Also while its jacked up check the wheel bearings while tyre is jacked up of the ground grab top and bottom of tyre and see if there is any play by pushing and pulling tyre if play bearing may be poked or just loose. this one u can do at home in your drive way.

Can look at bushes when its jacked up to if u jack from frame rail so suspension doesn't have any load on it check where u can see bushings for any play in them.

pay to get wheel alignment done too check toe in or out is correct.

That's what id check first.

My 97 has a slightly warped disc, it's okay in town but if I jump on the brakes at a hundred...wobbledegobble. Take yours for a drive about wobble speed, let it coast to a halt without using brakes. Back of your fingers on the wheel, if cold, move inwards, to the brake disc itself. If still cold, disc is okay. If you burn your finger, there's fraction too much friction. Maybe get disc skimmed...
Check tyre pressures. Inside door says 23psi, tyredude says 36. With 23psi it wanders all over the road...I wonder what tyres were original?
