Because the fella I bought it off replaced the inner boots before I purchased then not long after they started rattling.

Did it in a straight line which is why I though it was inners.

Plus, I take a while to get around to doing things, so when I do it, I like knowing I'm not going to put it back together and be back at square one .

Motor seems pretty happy and gearbox only has the slightest, faint whine in 4th (top gear ). So with all this rebuilt, I should be good for 100,000km out of the old tart I think.

I haven't looked into getting CV's rebuilt yet. Do you know someone?

Yea. There's a couple of places that can do it. Ebay aus might be a cheaper option. Aussie got heaps of brats.

It looks like $400 NZD including freight excl GST for two complete assembly's off ebay auz. At what point are you charged GST when your importing goods? I got pinged bringing in my MSII and AFR gauges from the US which was $1300NZD

Even if I get charged GST, which, when your quoted $600 for one side at RIPCO, its not bad.

Just a bit of risk around being sent the wrong thing...

It's not unheard of for the outer cv to rattle in a straight line when they are really bad.

Its also not common for inners to rattle. They tend to give a graunching grinding sound and a vibration.

The boots on the outers looked in good condition with no signs of leaching grease. The inners were spewing grease everywhere hence why I'm just going to do the lot. Keep the best assembly for a spare

I have asked the auzzie ebay fella if he can do a better price on shipping as its close to needing to pay GST. So with a little less on freight, no GST, should be under $400 for both sides which isn't bad.

Yea saw that white brumby a while ago. Bit different aye. Would be a laugh to take for a spin though...

Repco has axle assemblies on sale every now and then. I got complete assemblies for a swift for $80 a side instead of ~$290. Was a month or so ago now.

Yea, still think I'll go ebay over repco though.

I think those MT753's are 185/80/14. That gives them an overall diameter of 650mm or 25.5". Still better than 27" muds at about 690mm OD

Currently I'm running some very bald firestone 185/70/13's which measured 570mm overall but are bald as so I think they would have been closer to 600mm new. But you can't but them anymore.

185R14C

185 is the width
R = radial ply
14 = wheel Diameter in inches
C = Commercial which is generally 6 or 8 ply

Well, these MT753's are the closest thing I can find to a half decent mud or AT tyre without going to the 27" range which I think will suck a bit to much grunt out of the EA81.



I have been quoted $195 each off a seller on Trademe which sounds reasonable.

Problem is they are only available in 14" rim.

So I had a good hunt around for a suitable 14x6 steel whitespoke with a Subaru stud pattern. But you just can't buy them.

So all I can think of is buying these,

Then converting the hubs to 140mm x 4 PCD to 139.7mm x 6 PCD

The deal is, knock two of the existing studs out, bolt the wheel on, mark then drill out the extra four holes, whack in extra studs, hub back on. Conversion done

I'm picking that 0.3mm difference wouldn't put bugger all stress on the two original studs...

There is a real cool brumby floating around vic with lift barwork winch etc, even had the rear center cut out and a hilux center welded in to run an air locker im sure there is a write up on one of the aussie Subaru forums !
