1984 Yn65 hilux issues

Post by Sloppy joe »

Hello all, i am wondering if anyone here would be familiar with issues related to this model of hilux i have had the most peculiar issue evolve after i removed the deck now old crumpy isnt running on all cylinders and misfires coughs and splutters i hadn't, to my knowledge touched anything mechanical and she was running mint before this.I'm at a loss I've checked most electrical faults i can think of, replaced spark plugs, leads, coil, dizzy cap and rotor checked fuel lines aren't blocked every-time i try to have a crack at repairing it it seems to get worse now it is very hard to start compared to when the issue begun it started and idled fine any way i was hoping there may have been some clued up enthusiast who may know whats wrong thanks for any advice in advance

Check your dwell timing , sounds like could be points or condenser , If you have already replaced them you may have over tightened them and damagedthe earth in the dizzy base plate ,

Is the engine getting fuel?

Did you knock the fuel tank, line when removing the deck?

I did remove the tank as well to give the chassis a birthday ,that is the point everything went pear shaped but yes there is fuel to the engine also recently replaced fuel pump but was running fine after that till now

Ok so after finally getting some time to look over the old girl i did a comp. test #1&#4 cyl.have 140psi and #2&#3 have 135psi but in doing this test i noticed that the tip of the tester was dry when removed from number 3 and 4 so no fuel is getting to those cyl.'s could i be looking at a carburettor issue? What are the odds that two hydraulic lifters collapsed at the same time?

I'd be blowing air through the fuel lines to make sure you haven't crushed/split one.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
