Prado 4 inch lift springs wanted, or part numbers.

Post by Smurf »

Currently running 80 series fronts in the rear and 195Lb front springs, Nice and flexy but the rears especially are too soft. Front is bordering on too soft with the winch and barwork too, but not as bad as the rear.
With all our camping gear they sag a good 50+mm and off road I get a decent amount of guard rub. Even on road I can get the rears to hit the guards on corners.
Running empty they are awesome off road, but more of my 4wding is camping based.
I am looking for a better rated spring that offers reasonable load carrying but not too stiff when empty.
I have started calling emailing to find out what is available tht might suit but also thought I'd ask here too.
Autolign have just replied to me stating they don't have a 4 inch Dobinson spring, I thought they did one.
Does anyone have a part number for the 4 inch springs, if they do exist?

Or any info on spring rates on EFS or ?? Springs.
I had a set of Cobra/Chamberlains and found them too hard on road. may have been heavy duty, I'm not too sure.

Sounds like you need to extend bumpstops or chop guards if the tyres rub on road? You shouldn't be relying on the spring to restrict uptravel.

thought of poly air bags ??
inflate when loaded and deflate when heading off road..
they can also be used to control body sway to a certain degree

For off road I do need to look at extending the bump stops to stop the tyres rubbing.
On road they only rub due to the fact the suspension drops 50mm with a decent load and then rubs due to body roll. Running empty I do not get rubbing

Yes this is being considered.
Wanting to get a bit more room in the guards first with some 4 inch springs then see if we need to look at air bags.

Hey Smurf how did you get on with this situation? Did you get your 4" lift sorted?

Not yet, No one does an off the shelf 4 inch spring, well Cobra may but I am trying to not go through them.
Waiting on a pair of 4 inch S/H rears to arrive so I can play with the front, may just use some spacers yet.

Strange/annoying that its not a commonly produced after market part.
I'd be interested to see how you get on with this, it would be nice if there was something a little more off the shelf.

I have a set of 80 series in the rear of mine too but only getting about 3 inches of lift, and they are a really soft spring. I think in a SWB the 80 series would be sweet, or in a LWB with no load.
What distance do you have from bumpstop to diff housing?

For the number of lifted Prados around I am surprised there aren't any off the shelf options for 4 inch.

I went down the 4inch cobra springs track front and rear.
Fronts now only about 3 inch lift after sagging and with pto up front drops a bit more. I have a pretty big guard chop up front so no rubbing even with 36 simex.
Rears have sagged abit as well. Will be doing a big chop on them guards soon, taking the whole lip off. Hopefully i get enough to not have to lift it higher.
Only time rears rub in on big compressions of both rear wheels. Remember this is on 36's or my 35 ats. They flex up nicely now they have had a bit of use. At first they were quite stiff. But softened up heaps over last couple years.
My 2c. Not bad for the money paid realy. $400 for full set.
