d21 diff swap c200 to hg233b

Post by lockednloaded »

Hey guys I have a 1990 datsun d21 4x4 4banger na20 , I'm looking at options for my rear diff I want to put a locker in as it has a c200 open rear diff but the only available is an arb locker which im not that keen on , so I'm trying to figure out if a can get a complete drum to drum hg233b open diff out of a later model v6 d21 and will it bolt in without any major modification? Or would a safari hg233 fit? The c200 runs a 4.8:1ratio and from what I have seen so does the hg233. Has anyone done this conversion before? The hg233 means I can install a lock right locker and they seem pretty bulletproof cheers Jed

some of the Navara's came out with a LSD c200 or a WD21 pathfinder/terrano, or change out the complete axle for a HG233b from a terrano or pre facelift mistral with the clutch pack LSD. or get your hands on the LSD or locker from a silvia legacy skyline cefiro laurel 180sx 300zx.
from memory you'll be needing the 29 spline diff head if you only want to swap the center out. Don't get the R50 axle i think they are 31 spline with bigger brakes.

car50 had the 33spline stern (drum braked version of the Y60 Safari unit) Stupidly big unit for the application.

Sh^tloads of info here on Nissan diffs and interchangeability, just a search away and comb through the info.

Leafs vs coils... a linked rear end won't exactly bolt in..H233 4.88 gears not exactly common either

4wdsystems in Australia make Lokka/Lokrite/Aussie Locker for the 4-pin C200. That or an LSD would be the easiest as crash says

Some late model d21 navaras have the h233 rear diff fitted as oe (leaf sprung)
The factory turbo double cab purple ones all seem to have it fitted
Maybe look into one of those (some have factory diff lock too  )

a possibility is the series 1 D22 h233b rear diff. the 4wd z24 engined one comes with 4.8 ratio.

Thanks yeah I have been ringing around wreckers but none have come up with any tails on a complete axle , I just discovered that lokka makes that c200 locker so that would probably be the way to go,will be a far more capable truck with that

Only problem is they are drum brake and leaf sprung, so not really that easy to fit into wd21 :(
Would be interesting to know if locker has 31 or 33spline spider gears

Would have thought the actuator would be in the diff housing rather than the main beam?
