Hi everyone,
I've just bought an 86 surf 2.4 turbo. Super stoked first 4wd, and it wont be standard for long. She's obviously pretty old but she seems very straight also.
Couple of questions for anyone out there. Theres a few squeaks and what not coming from the suspension on heavy turning or braking. Is this just to be expected with the age and leaf springs etc or should I be fixing something.
Also the clutch is a bit noisy and grindy under acceleration, is this likely to be the gearbox or a simple fix like lubing something?
Any help would be great thanks!

Re: 86 Surf Squeaks and Groans
Being an 86 it should be IFS , The noise is the lock stops , you can buy the shitty plastic caps from Toyota to cover them but they never last long , I use marine grease on the contact points every service ,
Re: 86 Surf Squeaks and Groans
As Trundle said, those steering stops can make a hell of a racket, but the easiest thing to prevent this noise is to avoid using full steering lock when turning - just back off a touch.
Is the noise mainly coming from the front or rear suspension?

Thanks for the replies,
It makes noise from the back mostly squeaking which I'm pretty happy is just the leafs (older utes I've driven do the same). It was mostly the noise from the front I was worried about, on turn (I've already started to back of lock) and, only sometimes on heavy braking and its more of a "ping" or a knock from the front. I'm hoping to give the whole chassis and suspension a lube if its possible for peace of mind and hopefully take out some of the noises.

If you get up close and personal to your front end, you might find it could just be as simple as a bush which is buggered and allowing a bit of slop somewhere.
You can grease the leaf springs or place nylon/plastic strips between them to quiet them down and help with the flex side of things a little too.

Ok great thanks again.
SO I've had a peek underneath, and as far as I can tell the noise is coming from somewhere in between the lower control arm, and where the curvey bit attached to the ball joint enters it.
Is there a rubber bush in here that might be pinched or old?
