4 runner 3l+t balls up help and ideas

Post by 1kz_surf »

broke a axle and whilst waiting for help some mate decided it woud be good to turn the diesel pressure up a bit as since it was a + t it dosent blow any smoke , was turned the wrong way , sooooo...

now it dosent run at all it ran for 15 secs which id say it then starved it self , my question is has anyone encountered this and dose any of you brainiacs out there know a setting to set the pressure screw to ??

it is also being a right shit to bleed up since they pulled the return line off and tested the primer on the filter .....

I was thinking of cracking a injector and getting air out like that ???

so pretty much im calling for some help !

cheers any help would be great

You need to do this when changing the fuel filter normally, to get the air out of the injector feed lines as it drains back out when things are disconnected, off the top of my head i think the repair manual goes crack all 4 injectors and crank it over till at least two injectors push some diesel out by the nut then tighten them all back up then its good to go.

Try that and let us know how you get on.

As for the fuel, to get the mixture right with heat included in the equation without taking it in to get tuned i would suggest an egt gauge to check how much heat its putting out. Easy enough to test it with egt and adjust the nut then take it for a drive and check temps then re do until your happy. more fuel creates heat, more boost cools it down.

If you don't want to do that, set it back to the factory mark then try again from there. Its a trial and error sort of thing.

On a side note ideally you would want the boost compensator of a non efi 2lt to stop the over fuelling and heat at low when theres not much load/idle if you haven't already got it on top of the standard pump.

No sorry, no idea how its set from factory i just remember it has a nice bit of yellow paint on where its set up from factory.

I would start by bleeding the system then adjusting it quarter or so at a time and see where it starts to fire up and go from there.

Someone else may have a better idea tho.

are you starting it with the throttle on?
if not than put the boot into it.

firstly its not a pressure setting.
assuming your talking about stock 3l pump and if you havn't changed idle setting, then simply adjust max fuel screw until it idles correctly. that will put it back to factory or close enough.

if you wind max fuel screw down it lowers the idle rpm, you probably changed it lower than what it can run.

i doubt its starved of fuel unless you have had lines off.
they will pump air through fairly quickly. loosening one or two injector connections will get air out of enough injector lines enough that it will fire.

I got a diagram and settings from Toyota today it says 7-8mm for the pressure screw ,the one I had fucked with , yes a standard pump and ive cracked off 2 injectors and then 4 injectors to try bleed but still no go , my pressure screw is way out and looks to have been out most of its life as winding in increses pressure so I am going to wind in to spec and then see what happens then.

drove home at lunch today from work and tried starting whith the cracking ijector idea with no success , pretty disappointing so drove back to work in a grump hahahaha bloody trucks ay !

its not a pressure adjustment.
toyota call it a full load set screw.
