2LT EGR and EGT installation questions

Post by Ryanjury »

I have removed the head to replace it and wanted to pull out the EGR system and install an EGT gauge while I am at it.

There is an awful lot of vacuum lines around the EGR valve and various sensors etc. I would like to pull some of this stuff out but I am not sure what is actually needed, I know at least one of the hoses goes to the injector pump.

Excuse the pics I can't upload big ones to here.

Can anyone provide comment on the vacuum stuff and the location of the EGT probe?

I was planning on installing the thermocouple probe into the area where the EGR pipe connected to the exhaust. Does the probe look long enough to give me meaningful EGT readings?

No idea what any of these are.

I know both of these are related to the butterfly in the intake this has been disabled by blanking one of the lines anyway. But can they be removed?

1. This is the EGR valve I do know that this isn't needed but most of the other stuff is attached to it. I would like to remove it and the pipe that goes behind the engine.

2. Unsure what this is.

egr probe is to short and will read cold. will find the length in a mo.

3,4,6,7 are vsv and actuators for the butterfly system. pays to get rid of the intake butterfly but will cause rough shutdown. otherwise work out how to disable the egr side of the butterfly while keeping the shitdown working.

5 is the filter thingy whatmecallit that connects manifold to boost sensor. make sure its clean. the big hose one one side is prone to cracking.
you can remove it and join the hoses up.

1 is egr valve and 2 is vsv for egr valve. they can go byebye.

That probe is very long, will the bend fit inside the manifold? I will have to do some research and see if it is compatible with the gauge that I already have. I guess another option would be just to blank where the EGT pipe went and then just tap the exhaust manifold near where the turbo mounts.

It is a 2L-T not the TE version.

the probe has to be long. that probe is what i've got because my earlier one was to short and read 100c colder.
its actually quite a distance from egr plate to center of the runner.
i thought there would be enough gas movement around that port for the shorter one to work. i was wrong.
