Re: Hamboy's Terrano
Change out the solenoid. and the cables(there not heavy duty enough) I have two of these, The actual winch's are quite good and pull like hell but a 40 meter double line pull with a dead land crusier hooked to the rear just about melted the wire's lol.
Ended up using some earth cable off a dinosaur of an arc welder the ole man had. did the trick

Hi Dan, cool winch bar, def. toughens the front up.
Re; dual batteries, I'm planning on electrical upgrade too.
Electrics are not a strong point for me so this may be just hearsay - a couple of people have mentioned to me that if you install a second battery in parallel, it will overload & shag the TD27 alternator in no time. Maybe an electrical expert could confirm or deny this?
Also out of interest, are you running rubber or poly bushes in your upper control arms?

I can confirm this is not the case as long as both batteries are the same CCA rating. I've run dual parallel batteries in mine without any type of charging switch over system for around two years now and haven't had any issue's, If anything it has made it easier on the alternator even just driving at night with the spotties on etc.

Re: Hamboy's Terrano
If you drain your battery completely and carry on winching its likely you could damage the alternator as it will run at full noise for an extended period.
If you are running dual batteries it should be fine. If you start doing a lot of winching it will load the existing alternator which can push an already thrashed alternator to the edge. Easy to do bearings and brushes and polish the commutator as part of your upgrade so you know you can rely on your charging system.
Matt.

Interesting cheers, good to know. Do the batteries both have to be same brand same construction type same age etc or just same CCA?

It would help if the batteries were identical as possible but im running two different brands of battery but both 880CCA commercial's.
I'd say running a deep cycle marine battery and a heavy duty vehicle battery for example one would get damaged.

I've got a factory fitted system out of my spare truck, works sweet, just got alter the loom to fit mine. As for the UCA bushes they are poly
Re: Hamboy's Terrano
Got the dual batteries 95% done, just got to shift a few things to make it all fit. Factory parts make the job so much easier
. I ended up cutting the inner guard with the battery tray out of the spare truck, drilling the spot welds at work and spotting it into mine with the big flash welder.
The loom just plugged in, only replaced the battery terminals, I like Nissans
I know, I know my wiring's a mess but it will be sorted once everything's found a home.
I had a spare day today so I went shopping
got some more cap screws for the front hub, a replacement speedo cable (cheers to craigs4wd), a new clutch slave and some manual locking hub seals.
The clutch slave went in no dramas, but the cap screws for the front hub were a different story
got one out after an hour of cursing and swearing at the little bastard, however the other one refused to move so I'm gonna have to get serious with it next weekend
Also did a little refurb on the R/H locking hub, see below
Cheers
Dan

Re: Hamboy's Terrano
My R/H manual locking hub has been playing up for a while now and manuka island was enough to finish it (or so I thought). So it was sitting on my bench looking at me today so I decided to see what it was going to take to fix it.
Turns out not a lot, the front seal was buggered and the little spring that holds the knob in lock or unlock had broken. After degreasing it I threw a new seal on the knob.
I couldn't find a spring for it so I cut a couple of pieces of copper to space the spring out.
I also repacked the CV idler bearing and threw some grease around the knob and stuck it back together.
Like a brought one
Sorry about the lack of pics, my phone is allergic to grease
Cheers

Re: Hamboy's Terrano
sweet bro will do just drawings on a page at the moment but think it will work in well
Re: Hamboy's Terrano
Ok so I've been really slack on updates here, but I have been using the 'rano as much as possible.
As far as mods go I threw in a 2 1/2 inch straight pipe, had some rear hook mounts made as the shackle was becoming a PITA!
And replaced the 2wd steering system that was getting flogged out. The new system includes the lax2wlg adjusters.

How are you finding the 2WD conversion?
Your truck is coming along nicely too.

Are those Cum-a-lot brand draglink/tie rod ends you running Dan?
They any good? How long did your first 2wd draglink last?

It drives so much nicer with the new bits fitted, well worth doing.

Yeah, its all camellot stuff, I've had no problems with them and got 18 months-ish out of the last lot.
Re: Hamboy's Terrano
Any performance mods aside from the exhaust?

So after my last outing in "The Club Bulldozer" (
) I decided to make a better belly pan
Still needs testing. Big thanks to Pete at Springcreek Engineering for the use of his tools and time.
Also fitted my new starter motor so no more crunchy crunch
Thanks kiwipete it was an easy fix.
