Turbo oil feed rate

Now I know this would have been asked n awnsered but the feed on the block of the td42 is that suitable for a turbo too be hooked str8 into or so I need to reduce the flow...

It won't be an issue, if anything the faster the flow of oil through the bearings the cooler they will stay.

Not so sure about this, blew the seals in my turbo, had steve murch rebuild it, he put a reducer in to lessen the oil flow. The other important thing is the oil drain, needs to go straight into the sump.

To much flow of oil is worse , you want a dash 3 feed line max or a 2.5 mm restrictor ,
It should equate to about 1 litre per minute ,
If you have to much it rams the shaft against the bearings and ##### your thrusts etc etc ,
I have pre made lines for them but you may as well use your local specialist and utilize the gallery with the 1/8npt plug above the lhs engine mount

there is a difference between flow and pressure, If you blew oil seals from too much pressure your drain back wasn't big enough.

If it's pushing the shaft into the housing then your spindle and bearing's have too much play or not assembled correctly as it would do this anyway when the turbo spools up creating pressure inside the housing, the impeller would pull forward into the housing

it depends on the turbo. ball bearing requires less than sleeve bearing turbo. also some turbo's are internal restricted so it doesn't matter what you plumb to it, but others are not.
they only have an oil slinger to stop the oil going past the seal. to much oil will overwhelm it.

Most ball bearing turbos require aroung a 1mm resitrictor but IMO they are a bit of a myth , mostly un rebuildable , and far more susseptable to failure than a jounal bearing with 360 degree thrusts ,
And no I cant spell for shit lol

I agree and what I surmise my comment on,

Oil goes from 180 odd degrees to over 400 when it enters the turbo charger to cool and lubricate, it's viscosity goes out the window and boils turning into a froth most of the time if not enough oil is present to completely flood the internals of the turbo charger.

Hence volume over pressure, if people think there engine is safe because the oil pressure gauge is reading ok when ya stick ya foot into it, think again...and this is what kills a turbo charger.

My new holset has a dash 4 this was what was recommended by Steve Murch who built it

Holsets are slightly different from memory one of the few that recommend a dash 4 feed , I run a holset on my truck also
