13bt -No hot air

Post by juz »

Ive bought a 86 Cruiser with 13bt, i bought it knowing that the heater wasnt working, it blows air just never gets hot. I spent yesterday flushing the radiator, also the heater hoses, block etc both ways. Alot of shut came out especially the heater hoses but after getting to temp today still no hot air.
Anybody had this problem, got a solution? Cheers Justin

have you checked that the heater valve is moving when you go from cold to hot? that would be my next thing to look at

Yip, its moving. Will investigate more next weknd, thought flushing all the lines would have sorted it. Does have rear heater too, might disconnect that. Not that it works anyway.

if a heap of shut** came out chances are the heater core is blocked.. either replace or take it out and get cleaned properly..

When you flushed the heater hoses did you flush the heater core?
And if you did, did you flush it backwards and forwards several times?

On my XJ I flushed the core and it kinda worked for about a day. Flushed it backwards and forwards several times, (maybe 10 times each way, few minutes each way) with more or less full garden hose pressure and was amazed how much more shit came out. Worked well all winter after that.

Re the full pressure, I figured it would either flush it well or wreck the core. If it didn't flush I needed a new core anyway, so no loss.

Replaced thermostat today, disconnected the rear heater lines and flushed heater lines again, still no hot air from the heater so tomorrows job will be ripping out the heater core I guess. Guess its just mounted inside heater box like old cars?
