Hi guys long story very short ive got a 130 surf with a vp (i think) 3.8 in it, its been done with all the marksadaptors jazz and a toyota 5 speed box.
When i got it it had a bad miss which i fixed by putting another ecu in it from a auto vn. My question is should i have used a 5 speed ecu?

Re: Commy surf ecu
Won't effect it.
the differences are in the outputs/ inputs so the ecu can communicate with the TCU for best engine response on kickdown etc.
the mapping is identical.

Re: Commy surf ecu
You could swap the memcal from the vp ecu to the vn ecu, the actual ecu is the same
Re: Commy surf ecu
Thanks fellas, is it worth getting an aftermarket memcal or are they just bullshit? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 391786.htm

Re: Commy surf ecu
you'd get that much gain from a set of extractors 2.5 or 2 and 3/4 inch exhaust and cheese grater turbo flow mufflers, the reason the rev limit is low is because the 3.8 was a cut down v8 5 litre buick, hence the odd firing order and balancing.

Re: Commy surf ecu
Sweet as, its got a decent size exhaust already and do you know the rev limit off hand? As it is it sounds like it wants to vibrate ta bits and throw a leg out at high revs, just sounds bloody good on the cut lol
Re: Commy surf ecu
I've been told you need to be very careful to avoid sitting it on the rev limiter as they work by cutting the fuel to the injectors - causing a significant shock loading on the crank as it cuts in & out. If you want to sit on the limiter - best to get an aftermarket system to progressively cut the ignition to 2 cylinders at a time.
