unusual wobble at 100km

Post by J_Dub »

So just purchased an r50 terrano for a steal. Gona fix it up to sell just needs some minor or things fixed.

At 100km/h if I hit an undulation in the road the truck wobbles in a way as if the body is moving about the suspension. So the wheels remain straight and true and driving in a straight line, steering wheel fine, but the body feels as if it's wobbling and shaking. Hard to explain. Its not aggresive, just a smooth wobble. Then stops. Quite a freaky sensation though.

Any ideas to check first up. Bushes? Shocks? Rear shocks look new, fronts look old.

Check all the rear suspension bushes they are very common to fail and cause a nasty wobble.

1. Wheel balance
2. Alignment
3. Inspect/Adjust/repack wheel bearings

Yup, if it feels like it's wagging it's tail it'll be rear arm bushes...common as.

Actually wagging its tail is exactly how u would describe it.. :D

Also just checked tyre pressures, suppose to be at 51psi they were all 25-29 psi. Can't help

 Doubt it that is probably max inflation pressure, should be running around 30-35psi unloaded.

Yup. What he said......

open drivers door and look for a sticker that has the recommended tyre pressures on it

Checked tyres and all I could see was a max pressure. No recommended pressure. They stated 51psi max cold. Thought that seemed high but as there was no other reading and they did seem a bit under inflated I thought maybe correct

Pretty sure the sticker on my r50 says something stupid like 28psi I always run them around the 32-34 mark feels way too soft on anything less

thats max pressure at maximum weight. theres no way your going to be that heavy. try a couple of different pressures up and down, some tires will run better at lower pressures others at higher pressures. the 30-35 would be a good start point.

I had simlar in my GQ, I fitted a better wheel bearing system (from the GU's) and gave my steering box grubscrew an 1/8th of a turn and BAM drives like an arrow.
