councils and land access lobbying

Post by slidenyo »

Hamilton city council in there great wisdom are looking to beautify the city .
Has anyone got any experience in lobbying access to unused wasteland to develop a 4x4 trail in the city.
Obviously in return for access 4x4 enthusiasts could help clear and re plant such an area to aid sound proofing , create vantage points and walking trails for both competition use and other outdoors people.
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

Only a start though!
An excellent idea to promote to the Council, even if it gets knocked back. Unless they are aware that there is positive interest in such projects that might benefit a range of recreations, they'd probably not think of it themselves.

The concept of urban trails is growing rapidly in US cities and some mix vehicles with other users, but it's not common.... their liability laws are different from ours. You could start your research at www.americantrails.org
Have a look a their 'Resources' tab.

You might talk with the Walking Access Commission www.walkingaccess.govt.nz who could well offer support with advice... they are not adverse to 4x4 use.
