-What vehicle is it going on?
-Is it 12 or 24 volt?
-How is it going to be mounted?
-What is it going to be used for?
-How much do you want to spend?

Both really. My truck not that extreme just rather have and not need than need and not have.

those runva things are good bang for buck entry level winches and seem to have pretty good reliability and NZ support for service, parts and shit. If you go for a higher rated winch it'll be lower geared and slower than a lower rated winch they all usually all have the same HP motors so don't go thinking the higher rated you go the bigger and faster it'll be synthetic ropes are the bees knees compared to a steel cable for handling etc but generally have a shorter lifespan if you want it to have good longevity sitting in the sun on the front of your truck year after year , if you break a synthetic rope you can do a bush repair and tie a knot in it, bit harder to do with a steel rope it's fawking hard to tie two ends together in the bush if your only occasional use you'd probably get away with the skinny little battery cables that come with it but its well worth looking at upgrading them to heavier cables they tend to be a bit small and can easily start to cook and put higher resistance into the circuit putting more load on the winch motor decreasing its service life often leaving you stranded and sunk up to the door handles in mud several hours from the road end with no cellphone coverage just before dark

I have bough a new runva 9000lb winch from a guy who closing down his 4x4 outlet, paid $400. It has steel cable and if I really need extra pulling power I just put the pulley block on, perfect for me, Ill prob use 10-12 x a year in the bush and often home pulling stumps out
I have mounted the electrics under the bonnet and got extended cables made to suit.

Derk is right in the above post, whats is good for you and your needs is the best winch/rope type combo to get.

Cheap is not necessarily good you don't want something that has been used and abused and in need of rebuilding (unless really cheap) Given it's something that could make the difference between getting stuck in the bush overnight or being home with enough time to wash ya truck IMO it's worth spending a bit extra to get something that you can count on.

anyone had experience with them. They looks fairly good im not looking for the top of the line kind of thing just something that can get me out of a pickle should the time come

Its when you are in a pickle as you call it, that you want the winch to work. Therefore I suggest don't muck around with cheap winches but get a well known reliable one from a reputable supplier such as Superwinch, Runva, Warn etc. You won't then come to regret scrimping the dollars when in that pickle.

Also for such occasional use and longevity, I suggest wire rope as opposed to synthetic.

This is a good price they were something like $1800 in the shops before the new model came out.

No personal experience of the Supercheap winch but one of our club members used one on his winch challenge truck last season. No winch failures but it was insanely slow for a competition winch. glaciers move faster!

They were impressed for the price, they regularly come up at half price!

I guess you might have quality issues from time to time, but my experience with Supercheap is that they will replace items quickly.

All in all a good winch for the money I would say...
