QD32eti glow plug lead

Post by regancooper »

Hi,

I am having some issues with the glow plug lead on my nissan.
For some time the lead that goes to the rear glow plug has been corroding away. It got so bad that the end fell off it and I had to attempt to cold start it due to having no tools with me to try make a patch repair. Since then I fitted a couple of new ends on the lead but the still keep corroding and it fails to glow. It ended up popping the fuse so i purchased a second hand glow plug lead and a new fuse. I still have the feeling that something is not quite right with it although it is working fine now. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I have the feeling it was short circuiting through the plastic on to the injector as there is some melted plastic on there. Any help or ways in which I could test to see if it is fine now would be appreciated.

Cheers

When we fix them at work we cut the lead back to some clean copper and put a decent terminal on it not just a cheap crimp terminal. Also you will want to clean the end of the glow rail and the top of the glow plug it goes onto and fit a new nut.

Thanks for your response, the new cable I have has a factory fitted end on it and I asked for the nut too as it has plastic coating that my one did not have. Interesting you raise the point of cleaning the glow plug rail. It has some corrosion on it. Its now got a flat battery since I diddnt leave it running long enough once it was fixed. Im thinking that or something is drawing to much current when it starts up and has caused the battery to run flat. Will pop it on the trickle charger and see how it goes. Perhaps the corrosion on the rail could be inhibiting the other glow plugs. Maybe i need a new rail too.

Cheers
