'what pajero have you got.. for example if your Paj is a gen 3 2.8 TDI I'd stick with that, I only got rid of mine as it was a 3L v6 and the engine was a lemon.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Make sure you lift up the rear seats on any Terrano of that Era and look very closely for any rust or previous repairs.

This statement is getting thrown about quite a bit.
Is possibly a true statement when only comparing with other ifs trucks.
But yes if wheeling is its main use, the paj is much tougher

Not really. As an overall trail vehicle the Mitsu will piss on a lot of solid axle trucks out the box and has a lot of features that others dont, like an LSD that actually works and low factory gears, and exceptionally durable running gear.

Not really, it just better in stock form (albeit more compicated), they got the steering right from the factory. According to this the OP's diesel Pajero has a 7.25" front end which is actually smaller in diameter than the front diff in the diesel Nissan he is looking at swapping it for. Apples for apples

Gen 2
3.0V6 :-
same as Gen 1 except for NH & NJ auto has 7.25" diameter front diff (high pinion) NH & NJ 5sp man has 8" diameter front diff (high pinion)
2.5TDI :-
same as NH & NJ auto
3.5V6 & 2.8TDI :-
front axle = 28 spline, 29mm diameter, diff = 8" diameter (high pinion)
rear axle = 31 spline, 33.5mm diameter, diff = 9.5" diameter

The only thing about the terrano that is better is the engine.

I'm not going to say better because I don't to start any sh*t...and I genuinely don't think one is an overall better vehicle than the other... but I am going to point out some factual differences.

-Wheelbase - Nissan is 104" vs 95"
-Physical dimensions - the Nissan is a slightly undersquare design giving it lower COG. (66" wide x 65" tall) versus (66" wide x 73" tall).
-Deeper transfer reduction of 2.02:1 compared to 1.925:1 for 2.5 TD Mitsu
-Much simpler (less clever, basic) transmission, no center differential, 100% mechanical, fewer moving parts, no computers.
-No clever but complicated multimode ABS in the Nissan
-4-link rear suspension as opposed to trailing arms (or in this case lief springs)
-Being base model this one probly has a drum braked rear end, Nissan all discs except the very early non turbo TD27s.
-31 spline 9.25" rear end compared to this ones 28 spline 9" rear end.
I think old Mitsus (and Isuzus for that matter) are highly underrated and I always like to support the underdog.

Wouldn't the height of the engine and running gear dictate that more rather than the overall height?
And go the MU's!

In terms of true COG, probably, yes.
But IMO height is height and still affects vehicle dynamics

My truck has about 4x the hp of yours and it gets stuck! You need to try some harder tracks before you consider upgrading.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
