Re: QD32t 5 Speed box to suit safari axles
What the fuss, from the pics it looks like the smaller and much lighter duty FS5W71C box with a Safari transfer glued on.
I could well be wrong so please correct me if so. Crash is that really a QD32 main gearbox?? Pic from auction.

VS this pic which is Wax's FS5R30A 'big box' from a manual Mistral in Aus
data:

yeah, wax's is the same box used in the patrol, R33 Gts-t/ GTR skyline 97 27/32 ETI spec'd mistral/pathfinder/terrano/regulus, they had a slightly bigger bell housing for a bigger clutch hence it is lacking the ribs in its casting
That TM box was never bolted to a qd32-t. N/A possibly but not a turbo/eti engine....It's the casting that gives it away, the ribs in the casting tells me thats a 1st gen box with a td bellhousing so most likely from a 96 R50 td27 terrano

Top pic is deceiving- they look pretty small but small box looks tiny from same angle.
Think its this guy selling them- http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 15&t=31141
And he knows his stuff.
Interesting that the box has no cardan shaft brake, but has flange rather than slip yoke driveshaft.

So if the internals of that box are not the same internals of the FS5R30A, theres no way in the name of Lucifer's fiery testicles that its worth 1200 of somebodys hard earned clams.
Its an extremely important differentiation.

But that is exactly what I'm running (1998 R50 TD27), which looks entirely different - the 'big box'

96 or 98?

Ah gotcha.
Theres no way thats the big box.

According to the ad its a 'QD32t D22 Modified 5 speed manual gearbox' that has been 'stripped and inspected and is in good condition.' So not rebuilt.
'Has similar gearset To GTR skyline but with Diesel ratios'
I hope the seller provides more evidence to justify the $1600 asking price

Re: QD32t 5 Speed box to suit safari axles
Ask him for a picture of the right side of the box (drivers side). If centre section (sandwich plate) has 3 bolt heads (2horizontal,1verticle) visible its the 'small box'. But you'll find it doesn't as its the 'big box'.
The only box bigger than the one in pic is the heavy cast td42 box. Otherwise- unless I'm mistaken- there is only 'smallbox' and 'bigbox'. Yes there's variants of each, but qd32 is bigbox, td27t is smallbox, td27eti is bigbox. GTR as mentioned is also 'bigbox'

Confused. Research indicates that visually it appears to be a FS5W71C transmission.
This pic is an FS5R30A, the 'big box.' Yes the FS5R50A cast bigger brother is the TD42 one.

Re: QD32t 5 Speed box to suit safari axles
Yet the only difference between the above pictures is one doesn't have ribs on bellhousing(forklift pic), one does (next to wall) , and other one has transfer on opposite side (and is clean).
Can you see something I can't?
Surely you can see the huge size difference in girth of the 'bigbox' over the 'smallbox'?
Theres subtle design differences between the two. Immediatly noticable looking inside bellhousing, or looking at the RHS- neither of which is pictured in auction.

I have a small box laying on the floor at work if I remember tomorrow I will take a pic from the passengers side to compare

Yes I can see the huge girth difference, thats exactly the point I'm trying to make! Below is a pic from his auction, it is advertised as used for $1600 that appears to be the 'small box.' It has a Safari TX12 transfer glued on the back.

Now Once again this is a real 'big box.' This is my FS5R30A with a Terrano TX10 transfer glued on the back. It is from a 1998 caR50. These are the 'rare' ones. But not $1600 rare. $750 rare.
