Disk brake upgrade on fj40
Disk brake upgrade on fj40
Hi all am halfway through putting disks on front of my fj40 cruiser but have hit a snag the 15x8 steel spoke wheels are hard on the face of the caliper and won't go right back aganist the hub ,do I need a different offset wheel to fit and can anyone tell me what it is I need or could try
Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
are the callipers 2 big pistons and 2 small pistons or the later 4 big piston callipers

4 big pistons by the look of it they're all the same size anyhow
Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
you need to change your rim offset, put a thin spacer on or clean the calliper up with the grinder and you should clear them ok

Thanks was thinking the grinder way of things but wasn't sure
Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
Anybody know what size spacer I'd need?
Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
prob about 8-10mm from memory and you may have to put some longer studs in to get enough bite on the nuts
, you could try spacing the wheel off with some washers or something to work out how far you need to space the rim off the hub, if you grind the calliper its only the cooling fins that need grinding back to get enough clearance, how much clearance you need will depend on the paticluar rims your running watch out if you change rims or put a spare on the front so nothing fowls

Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
maybe a combination of 8mm spacers and a wee grind up will try a spacer 1st though, thanks
Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
My Cruiser has a 10mm spacer on each side in the front, but I can't remember what the wheel studs are off.

Re: Disk brake upgrade on fj40
if its all becomes too much of a drama go find some earlier callipers with 2 big pistons and 2 small pistons the bodys are smaller and they clear fine and despite what anyone says you wont notice any difference in braking, you should be able to pick a set up for 100 bucks and you'll probably get 100 bucks for your set
