Update time again, the $10,000 mitzy is slowly coming together.

The rear difflock is in and the new compressor is now also installed.

Image

The front diff needed some new seals and also a bit of a shim, so that is happening tomorrow with any luck.

the PTO winch is in and the bumper which I had cleaned up a bit, they are just in the process of putting in the control lever for the winch.

Image

The elbow for the air intake is now completed too, and so the snorkel can go back on again

Image

Also my new gauges are installed and looking pretty flash

Image

Only problem at this point is that the glow system is not working correctly, it works fine if the alternator is unplugged, but the minute that alt is plugged into the system it packs wobbly. Frankie is wondering if it is a fault in the ECU at this point. Hopefully they will have that sorted soonish.

Another couple of weeks hopefully :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sorry, been a bit remiss with the updates, but here is the latest.

Engine is all in and running well, although it still needs to be tuned as it has a bit of a flat spot between 1500 and 2000rpm :( :( :( :( :(

New exhaust is in, aircon is re-gassed, EGT and boost gauges are working well, brakes have all been rebuilt and are up to scratch.

Passed it's new WOF with flying colours and is also now registered.

Currently it is sitting at the paint shop getting an expensive new coat of paint.

Once they are finished at the paint shop, (hopefully next week :D :D ) it needs a wheel alignment and a full tune, then I have to get the rear bumper re-chromed, and a couple of bits of upholstery sorted and then it will just about be finished.........

Nice work, but why paint an off road truck? After reading your other threads that really is tempting fate.
Or are you not allowed to off road this one?

OK, so slow progress, the $10,000, sorry make that $20,000, mitzy is still at the paint shop but they are promising to have it finished by the end of the week, but then they said that 2 weeks ago....... :? :? :? :? :? :?

But they are doing an exceptionally good job, the bits they have done look great, the blue has that deep still wet look to it. Cant wait until it is finished!!!!

Image

Black around the windows has been done
Image

Also the rear seats have all be repaired and are looking pretty good
Image

Just have to get the rear bumper back from Wanganui where it is getting re-chromed, then get the new stereo for it, still got the get it tuned, and then the inside cleaned by the professionals to get rid of 25 years of in ground dirt, tint the windows, and some fluffy wool seat covers and we are nearly there!!!!!!

Well we are getting close boys and girls.

Got the bumper back from Wanganui today so once I figured out how to put it back together again it looked pretty swanky I reckon 8) 8) 8) 8)

Image

So took that into the painters and they have finished the painting part now (yay :D :D :D ) and will put it all back together over the next couple of days. All the windows are back in and pin striping and turbo decals etc will go on tomorrow.

Image
Image

I am going to leave it with them for another week as I am away next week anyway and get them to put cavity wax in all the doors and all the areas where the moisture can sit. Then they will also completely clean the underside and then coat the entire underside of the truck with a heavy duty under-sealant. This will quieten it down a little and ensure that it stays rust proof etc.

Another update in a couple of weeks!! I know you guys aren't getting excited, but I am because I'm weird

OK, Ladies and Gentlemen, drum role please, hang onto your hat because the moment I know you have all been eagerly waiting for has finally arrived!!!!!!

The final reveal of the RitzyMitzy :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Here is the original list with whether I got that item completed or not

Brand new engine Yes
Front and rear difflocks Yes
New ARB compressor so I have onboard air as well as the lockers Yes
wheels and tyres off the V6 gen 1 Yes
PTO winch Yes
frount bar - maybe No
spot lights - maybe No
new 2.5" exhaust Yes
rf radio yes
tinted windows yes
seat covers yes
paint touch-ups complete repaint
snorkel yes
New radiator yes
Breathers on diffs/transferbox/gearbox yes
new brakes No, completely rebuilt old ones
EGT Gauge yes

Also put in
boost gauge
New stereo and speakers
Alarm system (operates central locking too   )
Turbo timer
LED running lights
rear bumper rechromed

So all in all not a bad effort I reckon, certainly turns some heads, even the courier guy came running in the gate this morning, stopped dead in his tracks and said "S#!t that's a nice truck!!!" Have to say I agree with him!!!!

Image

Image

Image

Image
Note my sheep skin seat covers over sprung seats....very comfy........ :D :D :D :D :D
Image
EGT gauge on the left and Boost gauge on the right
Image
Difflock and compressor switchs on the left, then PTO winch control. Sterio is a double din unit that is touch screen and has blue tooth so my phone hooks into it 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Image
RF radio, and note both the external and internal temp gauges work in the binical on top of the dash
Image

So you may be wondering if I am happy with the outcome and the money spent?

The answer is a resounding YES!!!!!

It looks and runs better than I thought it would and while I spent a bit more (like double......please don't tell Mrs MilliondollaMitzy     ) than originally anticipated, it has come out brilliantly in my humble and slightly screwed up opinion.

Also tried towing a decent load with it for the first time yesterday, had a bout 2MT on the back, and it towed no problems at all, held 90km/h on flat road with EGT sitting at just below 500C.
At 100km/h on a flat road without a load the EGT sits at just below 400C

Image

See you on the road :D :D :D

Well, this must be one of the only 1st Gen Pajeros in the country (world even?) to undergo what looks like a comprehensive restoration. It's hard to fathom but in a couple more years vehicles of this age will be 'classic cars'.

Awesome truck, well done.

Not my cup of tea but I certainly wouldn't complain owning that now

Top job mate. I like how u have kept it relatively factory looking, yet added the hidden extras.

Thanks Smurf, yes I must say I haven't seen one done quite like this and I have looked pretty hard on the web when trying to decide what I was going to do to the truck. Lots of trucks that have been polished but nothing rebuilt to this level. And I agree another 10 years maybe and vehicles like this will be come very rare, even more so because they are not naturally collectable like an RX3 or an early corolla.

Thanks JDub, I do seem to get that reaction a lot, most people go "wow that's a nice truck" and then have to slap themselves because they just applied the term "nice" and used it in the same cognitive movement as a 1989 Pajero.
Pleased you noticed how I did it, was definitely going for the factory look, but with all the nice extras. Cheers

Don't make em like they used to.
