I have read a few different gearbox oil capacity amounts and wanted to get the correct amount from someone that's done it before and what type of oil you used?
Also is there a separate sump plug for the transfer case or does the gearbox share the transfer cases oil?
Thanks
Suzuki ecusdo 1991 1.6 Gearbox

Gearbox and transfer case are separate, transfer uses 75/90 from memory. Not sure about gearbox.
pm me if you want a repair manual which should have all those details in it.

I used some Castrol VMX in mine
She was shifting a bit b$tchy and that helped alot!
There is a plug on the RH side of the main box for the filler hole. The filler hole is the level, so fill it up until it over flows a little and wack the plug in.
So just drain it with the plug on the bottom, seal that up. Avoid using thread tape, that can split your case! use some liquid thread sealant. (I have not used any and it weeps slightly..)

In mine the gearbox and transfer are separate. 4l will do both make sure you use gl4 gearbox fluid not gl5 as it will cause syncro damage also get the proper 10mm squire drive don't try and use a 3/8 ratchet to get the plugs out as they are soft ali and once damaged can be a pain in the ass. take the filler plugs out before the drain plugs so if you cant get the drain plugs out you are not left with a empty gearbox/transfer

Perfect thanks for the advice!

I have just had a good look and I can only find one filler cap on the gearbox and one sump plug on the transfer case. Would suggest that they share the same oil?
Also did you use 75w - 90? So many people say different things around GL-4 and GL-5 hard to know what's true.

I use this to find out. vmx has been good to me in tranmissions and transfers.

is yours 8v or 16v. I tried nulon 75-90 gl5 and it changed like a bag of s#$t then a replaced it with redline 75-90 gl4 it cost a fortune but she's back to changing smooth. There are cheaper options if you go to a oil manufacturers web site they normally have a tool to help select the correct oil

Mine is a 16v. Went with 75w-85 GL-4 which was the only GL-4 in the shop but seems to be fine
