Suzuki G13 water temp sensor..and how to remove it

Post by 3VILC »

Anyone have a spare SJ water temp sensor laying around?
And how the heck do you get them out? Obviously they are glued in with something, I snapped the one on my spare manifold and don't wish to snap the one off my engine. Obviously there is a trick..is it heat?

Haynes manual says:
Release the locking tab, unplug the electrical connector, then carefully unscrew the sensor.

Hope this helps!

Haha..its the 'carefully unscrewing' part thats not easy. They glue them in with some sort of thread lock, encountered it on many sensors and vac switches etc that go into the water jacket on many vehicles, almost always results in the top half of the thing coming out inside the socket and the rest staying firmly implanted in the hole.
Unless I try solder a wire onto the end of my sensor..doesnt look like much of a dirty greasy bit of brass to solder too tho..without shorting it to the sensor body

Oh right haha. I was thinking you missed the locking ring or were trying to lever it out or something haha

Ignore me :)

I've replaced a few of temperature sensors and never had any issues. Use a socket as opposed to a adjustable spanner to remove it?

I'm in the never had any issues club also , use a deep reach socket . Not much help now , how much is sticking out ( if any ) , maybe a stud extractor . One of those things that clamp onto the stud as you turn it . Otherwise only the obvious suggestion of an easy out .

good luck .

The one on the engine in the truck is in one piece, just the spade terminal is broken off and only the little center pin thats punched down like a rivet to hold the terminal on remains, so hence I was thinking I may be able to solder to it. The one on the spare manifold snapped in half as soon as i tried to undo it. I have found before that using gentle leverage with a powerbar rather than trying crack them with a shorter ratchet usually breaks them free, not this time. I'll probably end up just trying to solder it for now, if that doesn't work a cheap gauge and one of those adapters that fits inline in the rad hose will do the trick. One gauge I would like to work haha
