performance difference 1.6 ltr vs 2.0 ltr

Post by skidtoy »

looking for a truck to start my new build but am in two minds about both as they both have good and bad points in my eyes so wanting to know peoples opinions on both engine options.

at this point im split between the 2 but will most likely go with an auto as it will suit my needs better...so I guess if there are problems with the autos in these let me know also.

If I go v6 I would most likely just leave as stock besides headers and whack it on the dyno to tune it up as good as it can be, 1600 would be likely to see a snail hanging off the side of motor at a later time.

thoughts on both motors

If its of any use, I had a J18 powered 413 with the auto. Absolutely awesome set up. Cant comment on the V6, but def go the auto for offroad

I have seen people comment about the j18's on other forums etc im new to the Suzuki motors and the other sj's ive had over the years I had put Toyota t=series motors into so these are a different thing for myself.

the v6 will have a bit more power but a lot of people are saying about reliability on other sites, 1.6's seem pretty good as there are a heap of people running large tyre setups and seem to do fine but maybe the lack of power will be a issue later...but I guess can always just rape it until it dies and drop a 3.8 buick or something cheap in later if needed.

im not looking to build a mud bogger so having massive power isn't what im after but everyone likes to still have alittle bit of go

Find one with a J20A if you can as the G16's have issues with cracked blocks and heads and the H20A suffers from rattly timing chain problems.

Yea what the ginger said, heaps of aussies wank on about the V6s but have seen and heard of a few of them blowing up / snapping timing chains. The suzuki autos are really really really good and can eat a heap of power so your onto a winner there. I have a 1.6 EFI motor in mine and with good gearing it goes hard and can do tarmac skids with 33's on it so i guess thats saying something. Cracking heads etc is not as much as an issue as zukimister says aslong as the have a set of extractors on them, the standard manifold would crack and heat the head. Mine has done 270,000 kms and it goes hard as :-) have also heard many good things about the j18s and j20s, apparently the j18s are a bit revvier than the 20 but thats just hear say

At this point im probably going to go 1600cc I think...if it lets go or doesnt do what im wanting I will just rip it out and fit a different motor. Will fit some reduction gears to transfer as the smallest tyres I will run would be 37's.

haha,37s with 1600cc,would have to be so low geared you wont even spin the tyres, not sure what you have to do to stuff a 1600, mine spent its life on the limiter, got hot hundreds of times and still never gave a ounce of trouble.magc little motor.
