Terrano heater problems.

Post by traversd »

Hey guys,

The heater system in my terrano is pretty messy.

I can't change between the different settings on my heater, like changing it between window demister or the one that goes down towards legs etc.
The light comes up for each one i select but nothing changes.

And it sounds like the fan has no blades? like it just spins really quick and there is just a little bit of airflow out the main vent in the middle of the dash?

And it doesn't ever get hot?

What do you think would be my first thing to look at?
How big of a job am I in for?

I have no experience with heating/cooling systems.
(or much experience all together  )

Cheers

right so it is still connected?
trace you heater hoses back to the firewall, ensure its all there,
then trace the heater valve and ensure it opens and closes upon selection of hot or cold at the dash,
it will either be just inside the engine bay or inside the cabin in front of the heater core (requires lying on your back and peering under the dash where your heater hoses poke through the firewall, whilst someone strokes the heat selector)
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

If you can hear the moto running but get no airflow then its possible one of the ducts have come off and the air is just venting behind the dash.

You need to find a service manual so you can see where the flaps are and how to trouble shoot the system.

With the amount of water you have had inside it Travers you have probable buggered the servo motors that control the heater functions.
There should be 3 of them, one above the clutch pedal that controls where the air comes out, one on the far left that does fresh and recirculation and the last one will be in the middle and controls the blend flap which controls the temperature. You should be able to hear them moving when operating the controls.
There is no easy way to test them other than to plug another one in.

Check for a cabin air filter. It might be blocked if it exists, otherwise check what he said^^

Cheers for the help guys.

Cheers Daniel, it sounds like you are right, I don't hear a single thing when I adjust any of the controls.

I went to get the old ones I had in the old terrano body that is still lying around and I could only manage to get the blower motor thing out, that sits on the far left in above the passenger foot well.

But I couldn't manage to begin to get the one out that sits above the clutch pedal like behind the heater controls and such?
Does the dash have to come out to access that one?

it seems the flap on the blower motor doesnt open either? So I will try open that up?

Cheers again.

The flap on the blower motor is the fresh and recirc flap.

Cheers, heater core box thing was really clogged up with shit.

Is there anyway I can turn the heater valve on manually? I'm pretty sure the heater valve is closed, as I can't flush water though heater.

Looks like I would have to take out the dash to get to that middle heater unit thing?

Cheers.

They are really easy to get out as I dont think they have a valve on the water circulation.

Okay, I've removed dash, which units do I need to remove?

Is it the big thing in the middle in front of gearstick? if so how do I remove it?
Does the blower motor need to come out first then the thing to the right of that?

Cheers again for the help
