Okay so my cruisers rear diff has become very noisy. As obviously it has to come out I am wanting to get a locker at the same time.
I've seen sparten lockers for around $400 on eBay. Reviews are good on them but I'm just not sure that its a good option for daily driving. Also on eBay I found Chinese airlockers, copy of arvo ones. Rear kit shock includes compressor is around the $700 mark. Just not sure on the quality though.
And lastly I've heard of the standard electric lockers? Never seen any though. Do they fit in the open diff carrier? And what is the going rate for one?
Any input is appreciated.
Cheers

Re: LJ78 Prado rear diff lock/different options
I have a spartan type auto (un)locker in the rear of my single cab LN106, and use it as a daily driver, no problem at all.
It clicks and clunks a bit in supermarket carparks etc, but that is no issue.
I also have an auto locker in the front, that does affect 4wd, selectable would be nice in the front but you for the price an auto is okay there too.
In my opinion and auto locker in the rear of a daily driver is not a problem.

Cheers for that, I'm just worried that at intersections etc trying to get a gap taking a 90deg turn it will bind and clunk badly

Give Suzolla (Tim) a yell... he has everything you might need at good prices. I personally, chose to go with chromoly ring and pinion and a Truetrac (mechanical type lsd) in the front and rear of my landcruiser and love it!! Seamless operation, no buttons, no binding, and awesome traction. He has those there as well.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I have only really noticed the rear locker in carparks, it has never been an issue when turning right at intersections, that could be that with my 2.8 diesel I cannot take off quickly

A Truetrac seamless locker does sound good, they were not an option / within my price range when I put auto lockers in.
Re: LJ78 Prado rear diff lock/different options
Starting to sound alright then as my 2.4 doesn't get moving quick either lol.
What are these truetrac's worth?

Just reading some online reviews on truetrac, some suggest they don't like a lot of power and big wheels, they seem ideal for small diesel toyotas!!!

Below is the link for Tim...
About $700 for the Truetracs.
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 64&t=40505
I run a 1pz with turbo putting out a reasonable amount of hp with a heavy foot, 4.88 diffs, and 35" tyres (incl silverstones).... the Truetracs have been in for a couple of years now and no problems whatsoever!
Feel free to do your own research... my thoughts are merely based on experience using them....

Been doing a bit of thinking and I reckon ill rebuild my current different and chuck in a sparten auto locker. Sounds like they're pretty good. Cheers for all the suggestions
